COMMERCIAL RATOON RICE PRODUCTION IN TEXAS 263We have discussed ratoon cropping in a rice production system that is highlymechanized, direct seeded, with controlled irrigation. The primary constraints thathave a strong impact on ratooning in the U.S. are declining daylength anddecreasing temperatures in the autumn. Other regions of the rice-growing world maybenefit from ratoon cropping, but differences in climatic conditions, culturalpractices, and disease incidence are so different, our experiences and practices withratooning may have only limited application.REFERENCES CITED1.
