154 RICE RATOONINGThe studies suggest that it is possible to take an additional ratoon crop withlittle additional cost. It would save time, labor, and money. Although a ratoon cropwill grow if only water is added, grain yield would be significantly higher if fertilizeralso is added. In rainfed conditions, where yield levels are rather low, hybrid ratoonyields of 1.5-2.0 t/ha could cover the additional cost of hybrid seed.
