B. Stained Glass Domes<br />
The grand staircases soar to highly decorative semicircular domes at<br />
the apex <strong>of</strong> which are fishscale and floral design stained glass<br />
skylights. The sections <strong>of</strong> the domes contain painted cartouche (a<br />
shield or emblem) <strong>of</strong> three classical symbols <strong>of</strong> the governmental<br />
functions historically carried on in the Court House. The center<br />
medallion depicts Mercury carrying a postal letter.
