JEFF FEIGENBLATTJeffrey has been a member of HERJC since1982. He joined the Board of Directors in2001 and became a Vice President in 2003. Hehas also served for many years as a member ofboth the Ritual and House Committees.Along with his wife, Hedda, he chairedDinner Dance for the synagogue for 3 yearsand also served on both Rabbi and CantorSearch Committees. His children, Rory and Ryan, both attendedHERJC Hebrew School and were bar mitzvah’ed here. “It has beenan honor and privilege to have served my HERJC family, and Iwill continue to do what I can in the future. Thank you for thisesteemed honor,” said Jeff.2

TERRI GOLDFara and Melissa Gold are so excited thattheir mother, Terri, is receiving this honor.For as long as they can remember, their momhas been dedicated to serving HERJC and thesurrounding community. Throughout the 33years of her (and their dad Steven’s) membershipin our congregation, Terri has held severalleadership positions, both in and out of thesynagogue. While her girls would be happy to mention all ofthem (especially when Terri became Lynbrook High School PTApresident during Fara’s senior year, much to her daughters’ chagrinand amusement), they really think that the true measure ofTerri’s character and the real reason for this honor can be seen inthe faces of the friends she’s made, the minutes from all the meetingsshe’s attended, the baskets of Shalach Manot she’s delivered,the bottles of horseradish she reminds Steve to donate, and thecomfort she constantly offers to those in the congregation whoneed it. However, if you ask Terri to list her greatest accomplishments,she will undoubtedly mention Fara and Melissa. In fact, itis their achievements that are a reflection of the two most significantvalues that Terri instilled in them, values that embody Terri’sspirit everyday: tradition and family and service to our community.Indeed, Melissa embraced tradition when she put down her“roots’ and joined the family business a decade ago. Likewise,Fara continues to be committed to public service as a prosecutorfor the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.Terri has vowed that with this honor, she will “retire” fromservice on the Executive Board. While this may worry somebecause her commitment is unmatched and irreplaceable, Faraand Melissa want to allay the congregation’s fears. If Terri’sattempt to cut back her hours is anything like when Steven cuthis hours to 5:30 am to 2:00 pm, the HERJC community will bejust fine and can look forward to decades more of minyans, meetings,and membership.3

JUDY HERBSTJudy graduated from SUNY Albany with a BAin history and later graduated from PaceUniversity with an MBA in Finance. Judy andSteven married in 1979 and are the proud parentsof two daughters, Jessica, 28, who is marriedto Ben Fishkind and Amanda, 25. Bothgirls began their education in the HERJCNursery School and later graduated from ourReligious School and became B’not Mitzva here. Judy was alsopart of the Adult Bat Mitzva Class of 1992.Judy has been an active HERJC member since she joined 23years ago. She was elected to the Board of Directors in 1992. Shefound her true “niche” in the financial side of Temple affairs andhas been the Temple’s Financial Secretary and a member of theExecutive Committee since 1996. She also served on the Board ofEducation, Youth and Finance Committees as well as serving asSisterhood’s Treasurer for many years.Judy and Steve both recently retired and moved to Wilmington,North Carolina.4

MARTY LESSERThe Lesser Family joined HERJC in 1979,upon moving to East Rockaway. Marty immediatelybecame a regular at Shabbat services,joined the Ritual Committee, and was ap -pointed its Chair for several years. In 1986, hejoined the Board of Directors, moving up toVice President in 1994. During that time heserved as Shabbat and High Holy Day usher,taught Hebrew to congregants, chaired the Nominating Com -mittee and the Jerusalem 3000 celebration.Professionally, Marty, who holds a PhD in mathematical statistics,is Director of the Biostatistics Unit at the Feinstein Institutefor Medical Research and Professor in the Departments ofMolecular Medicine and Population Health at the Hofstra NorthShore-LIJ School of Medicine. For the past 14 years, he has beenchair of the Institutional Review Board, which oversees all humanresearch at the North Shore-LIJ Health System. An AdvancedEmer gency Medical Technician, he is also a member and pastCaptain of the East Rockaway Fire Department Rescue Squad.Jane, his wife of 38 years, (who served on the HERJC Board ofEducation), is an adapted physical education teacher at theHebrew Academy for Special Children. Their son, Lenny, is a familyphysician in California and daughter, Lori, is a speech pathologistin Manhattan.5

LARRY MILLERLarry has served as the HERJC Treasurer for15 years and has served in six consecutiveadministrations. Prior to becoming Treasurerhe served on both the Finance and RitualCommittees.Larry has been married to Marsha for 34years and they have been living in EastRockaway since 1980. They are most proud oftheir wonderful nuclear and extended families. They have threechildren, Lance, Mathew and Diana. They are also fortunate to be“sandwiched” between their loving kids and all four of their parents,always remembering how lucky they are to be able to sharefamily gatherings with everyone. Their seders have had upwardsof 40 people and they have celebrated happy occasions in variousparts of the country and in the Caribbean. Beyond spending timewith their family, Larry and Marsha are passionate travelers.Larry is a graduate of SUNY Binghamton with degrees inHistory and Economics and has an MBA from the WhartonSchool. He is a CPA and has worked in a variety of industries andcompanies. He is currently the Group Executive and BusinessFinancial Officer, International Markets for MasterCard.Larry is delighted to receive this honor and wishes a hearty“yasher koach” to his fellow officers and honorees, Judy, Terri,Jeff and Marty.6
