<strong>JSS</strong> UNIVERSITY, <strong>Mysore</strong>Genesis:Jagadguru Dr Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the 23 rd pontiff of Sri SutturVeerasimhasana Math, Suttur, was the architect and founder of <strong>JSS</strong> Mahavidyapeetha,which came into being in 1954. <strong>JSS</strong> Mahavidyapeetha, is presently running more than300 institutions starting from primary education to postgraduate and researchprogrammes in the fields of Medical Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Arts &Science, Law, Management, etc., There are about 50,000 students enrolled in thevarious institutions of the Vidyapeetha with more than 10,000 employees. TheVidyapeetha can easily be described as one of the largest education providers as wellas employer in the region.To further strengthen its educational efforts <strong>JSS</strong> Mahavidyapeetha approached theGovernment of India to provide the Deemed to be <strong>University</strong> status to some of itspioneering educational Institutions. <strong>JSS</strong> Medical College, is located in a sprawling 43 acre campus in Sri ShivarathreeshwaraNagara, <strong>Mysore</strong> City, which is about 140 Km from Bangalore. The city is famed for itseducational institutions, salubrious climate and beautiful gardens. The college whichwas started in 1984 has been designed and equipped for dispensation of qualitymedical education. The institution is backed by highly qualified and experienced staff,well equipped laboratories, library, and modern teaching aids.Since its inception in 1984, <strong>JSS</strong> Medical College is dedicated to serving society as acenter of excellence with emphasis on socially meaningful medical education,research and health care. The college has emerged as a pioneer in the state ofKarnataka by providing medical and health care programs throughinternationalization, innovation in academic and research studies.The college offers undergraduate course in medicine (MBBS) and postgraduate degree(MD/MS) and Diploma programmes in 29 medical disciplines. The sanctioned annualintake to the MBBS programme is 150. The college is offering DNB in Urology,Pulmonology and Radio-diagnosis also. The college is also conducting B.Sc. courses inRespiratory Care Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Dialysis Technology,Operation Theatre Technology, X-Ray Technology and M.Sc. in various disciplines, M.Philin Clinical Psychology and Psychiatric social work. The courses offered are a perfectblend of community oriented, problem based learning with high quality clinicalreasoning. The M.Sc / Ph.D programmes in subjects such as Physiology, Anatomy,Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Microbiology etc., have also been started, toencourage research in these basic subjects. The <strong>University</strong> has started Super Specialty invarious disciplines like DM (Neurology and Gastroenterology) and M.Ch in Urology.The graduate and postgraduate programmes of the college are recognized by theMedical Council of India. The courses offered are also recognized by General MedicalCouncil (UK), Sri Lanka Medical Council and WHO. The college has been recognizedby the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, UK for the award of MRCOG. Thecollege is also recognized by the Malaysia Medical Council.11


Library & Information Centre:The central library is spread over an area of 14,167 Sq. ft. <strong>JSS</strong> Hospital has a separatelibrary of its own. The library is equipped with medical and allied text books, referencebooks, encyclopedia, dictionaries, technical reports, monographs, thesis anddissertation works, foreign and Indian medical journals of repute, as well as generalreading material. The library also has an impressive collection of CD ROMs anddatabases. A digital library with internet workstations is established.Research:Research is being carried out in all departments, both in the clinical and basic sciences,under National and International funded projects. The staff and students are activelyinvolved in Clinical and Research activities, including publication of papers in reputedprofessional journals. Depression Brain Bank, a unique project, has already startedfunctioning. <strong>JSS</strong> Body Donation Association registers and receives donations of bodies.12

<strong>JSS</strong> Hospital is a 1030 bedded teaching and service oriented hospital, attached to <strong>JSS</strong>Medical College. It is one of the renowned high tech tertiary care referral hospitals inSouth India and has to its credit several super specialties and latest equipment. Thishospital has additional supporting paramedical training facilities in the form of Collegeof Nursing, College of Physiotherapy and School of Nursing. Quality health care is givenfree of cost for the poorer section of society.The hospital has 24 departments in various specialties. Since this is a teaching hospital,it provides services to patients through highly qualified doctors specialized in variousfields. There are 14 major operation theatres in addition to 2 minor operation theatres,well equipped with modern and sophisticated equipments, besides Intensive CareUnits, such as N.I.C.U., Intensive Cardiac Care Unit services. The Hospital has its ownOxygen Plant with pipe line connections to O.T., various wards and departments tosupply Oxygen to patients. The hospital also has round the clock emergency services.The hospital offers specialized services in endoscopy, video endoscopy, computerizedtread mill, endoscopic procedures in urology, cell count tests, nephrology services withhaemo-dialysis, diabetic clinic, neuro surgery and ultra sound. It also caters topsychiatric services, It also provides specialized services for cancer therapy at theCancer Hospital, <strong>Mysore</strong>. The Nephro-Urology department is doing Kidney transplantsregularly. In addition, there is an established Artificial Limb Centre to assist physicallyhandicapped persons, amputees, etc. The Hospital has also fully equipped laboratoriesfor conducting various Microbiology, Pathology, Biochemistry, Radiology and MedicalImaging tests and is also equipped with a blood bank. The hospital has installed awhole body C.T. Scan and MRI.The drug centre in hospital premises works round the clock and supplies drugs topatients at rates cheaper than those in the market.It will be seen from the above particulars that the <strong>JSS</strong> Hospital is one of the biggesthospitals in <strong>Mysore</strong> city and it has all the required facilities and infrastructure in thevarious departments and is fully equipped to render specialized medical treatment anddiagnostic procedures.14

The application should be accompanied by a DD for Rs. 5,000/- drawn in favour of“<strong>JSS</strong> UNIVERSITY FEE ACCOUNT” payable at <strong>Mysore</strong>.3. The <strong>JSS</strong>U-SSET – 2013 entrance test will be held on Tuesday, 16.07.2013 from 9:00 AMto 11:00 AM at <strong>JSS</strong> <strong>University</strong>, MYSORE only.4. • CANDIDATE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO APPEAR FOR THE TEST IF HE/SHE IS LATE BY15 MINUTES OR MORE AFTER THE START OF THE EXAMINATION.• The Candidate must bring TAT card & show the same on demand for admissionto the examination hall. A candidate, who does not have the TAT Card issued bythe <strong>JSS</strong> <strong>University</strong>, will not be admitted to the examination hall under anycircumstances. They shall also carry with them the original Photo ID andphotocopy of same, issued by Central / State Government (e.g. passport/voterscard/pan card/driving license)• A seat with a number will be allotted to each candidate in the examination hall.• A candidate will not be allowed to carry any textual material, printed or handwritten chits or any other material except the TAT Card inside the examinationhall. Candidates will not be permitted to bring calculators, slide rules, Clarktables, and electronic watches with facilities of calculators, laptop computers,personal stereo systems, walkie-talkie set, paging devices, mobile telephonesand any other objects/devices in the examination hall. Possession or use of suchdevices during the examination is prohibited & candidate is liable to be expelledif found using or possessing them.• No Candidates will be allowed to go outside the examination hall till thecompletion of the entire duration of test. Once the candidate leaves the hall(even for answering a call of nature) he/she will not be readmitted toexamination hall. No exception will be made in this regard.• Parents, relatives or friends of the candidates will not be allowed to enter into thepremises of the centre. No arrangement will be made for tea, snacks etc. for thestudents or parents.• Candidates should maintain perfect silence & discipline in the examination hall.Any conversation, gesticulation or disturbance in the examination hall shall beconsidered as misconduct / malpractice & the candidates involved in suchbehavior will be expelled from the examination hall. Similarly, if any candidate isfound using unfair means or allowing someone else to impersonate him/ her,his/her candidature at the examination will be instantaneously cancelled andthe matter informed to the nearest police station.21


• During the time of the test, the invigilator will check the TAT Cards of thecandidates to satisfy himself/herself about the identity of each candidate. Thecandidate will sign in the place provided in the test booklet in the presence ofthe invigilator. A bell will also ring before the closing time when the candidate muststop marking the responses or writing.Syllabus:The scope of the syllabus for the Post Graduate Medical Super Speciality Entrance isbased on the syllabus as prescribed by MCI. The percentage of questions related toeach category in <strong>JSS</strong>U-SSET-2013 is as given below.a. Questions on basic science : 50 Percent.b. Questions on Gen. Medicine/Gen. Surgery : 50 Percent.GROUNDS FOR DISMISSALSThe <strong>JSS</strong>U SSET - 2013 test administrator is authorized to dismiss a candidate from the testsession for:1. Attempting to take the test for someone else.2. Failing to provide acceptable identification when asked for.3. Creating disturbance at the test venue.4. Giving or receiving unauthorized help.5. Giving personal identification mark in answer sheet.6. Eating or drinking during the test.7. Using any forbidden/unauthorized testing aids, such as personal computationaldevices, pagers, cell phones, calculators, slide rules, log tables, etc.22


8. Attempting to remove scratch paper/rough sheets from the testing Room/testbooklet.9. Attempting to remove test questions (in any format) from the testing room.10. Failing to adhere to any of the other procedures and regulations cited.11. Refusing to follow directions as stipulated by the invigilators etc.MODE OF THE TEST:1. Question paper will consist of objective type of questions, each having one“most appropriate answer” out of 4 plausible alternatives.2. Question paper will consist of two parts. Part - I consists of questions related toBasic subjects and Part II consists of questions related to General Medicine/ Gen.Surgery. Part I and Part II carry equal marks.3. There will be one question paper of 120 minutes duration, consisting of90 questions and each question carries one mark for the correct answer.4. If more than one alternative is marked as correct answer for a question by thecandidate, the answer will be considered as invalid.TEST BOOKLET:• The candidate will be provided with a sealed Test Booklet. The candidate willwrite with black ball point pen, the required information such as TAT no, Name,Test booklet no and other details on the Test Booklet without opening the seal.The candidates are advised not to open / break the seal of the same beforethey are instructed to do so by the invigilator. The correct answer for eachquestion shall be marked by the candidate by tick mark ( √ ) in the spaceprovided against each question.• The candidate must sign in the box provided on the test booklet in the presenceof the invigilator after the verification of TAT, failing which the test booklet will beinvalid.• The candidate must bring his/her own materials such as black ball point pen.Note : Please use black ball point pen only for writing /marking particulars in theanswer sheet.23


CHANGING AN TEST BOOKLET:• As the answer is marked in black ball point pen, it will not be possible to erase themark, in case of a wrong answer.
