AIMSThe overall aim of this study is to acquire new biomedical <strong>in</strong>sights <strong>in</strong> the development ofCRC <strong>and</strong> to use this to p<strong>in</strong>po<strong>in</strong>t suitable biomarkers <strong>and</strong> <strong>no</strong>vel molecular tools for highprecision diag<strong>no</strong>stics <strong>and</strong> prog<strong>no</strong>sis.The specific aims were two-fold:- To explore occurrence of c<strong>and</strong>idate epi<strong>genetic</strong> biomarkers dur<strong>in</strong>g colorectal cancerdevelopment <strong>and</strong> their suitability for early tumor detection- To identify the <strong>genetic</strong> mutation profiles of selected genes <strong>in</strong> colorectal carc<strong>in</strong>omas <strong>and</strong>their potential use as prog<strong>no</strong>stic markers. These studies <strong>in</strong>cluded the genes <strong>in</strong> the MAPk<strong>in</strong>ase pathway <strong>and</strong> also those affected by mismatch repair deficiency.37
