Among themajor topics taught are the Basics <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Film</strong> Medium, Cinemaas an Art, <strong>Film</strong> History, <strong>Film</strong> Theory, Relationship <strong>of</strong> Cinemawith Other Arts and so on. The Archive also co-ordinates shorttermcourses on similar lines in collaboration with educationalinstitutions and cultural organizations outside Pune.A large number <strong>of</strong> scholars and researchers on Cinema fromwithin the country and abroad look forward to NFAI as a majorresource Centre where they have easy access to the largestrepository <strong>of</strong> Indian Cinema and perhaps the best Library <strong>of</strong>books on Cinema and related arts in the country. Located at Kolkata and named after thelegendary film maestro Satyajit Ray, SRFTI is the second nationallevel training Institute to be established by the Government <strong>of</strong>India. The Institute <strong>of</strong>fers three-year post-graduate diplomacourses in Direction & Screenplay Writing, Motion PicturePhotography, Editing and Sound Recording. Apart from the basicdiploma courses, the Instituted also has the provision to conductshort and medium term courses on subjects related to film andtelevision. Research and explorative studies in the sociology,culture and technology <strong>of</strong> film and television are other areas <strong>of</strong>focus in SRFTI. Two <strong>of</strong> the Institute's Short<strong>Film</strong>s have been selected for screening in the Cannes <strong>Film</strong> <strong>Festival</strong>.The Institute takes students through an open All IndiaCompetitive examination, followed by an interactive orientationsession for the selection <strong>of</strong> right students against the ten seatsin each discipline. The exam is conducted in all major citiesacross India. The courses <strong>of</strong>fered by the Institute are full-timeresidential course.
