SYNOPSISORE KADAL(The Sea within)35mm/colour/Malayalam/123 minutes/ESTIn Ore Kadal (The Sea Within), Shyamaprasad's latest film,he continues to explore the intricacies of human relationships, once again employing an evocative style and imagery thattranscend realism, whose delicate nuances and minimalism havebeen likened to chamber music. While Agnisakshi (1998) dealswith the strained marital relationship of a Brahmin couple againstthe charged background of social reform and the Independencestruggle, Akale (2004) depicts an Anglo-Indian family whosemembers keep failing to understand or communicate with oneanother.Ore Kadal (The Sea Within) is the sensitive study of Deepti,a middle class housewife, who is irresistibly drawn to a radicalintellectual, Nathan. As the affair grows in passion and intensity,Deepti's mounting sense of guilt pushes her towards mentalinstability. Her husband and children are caught unawares in heremotional conflict and her return to sanity only adds to herinner torment. Relationships, the searing lure of love, the painand agony of having to live a life without love, the pain ofwalking into someone's life and of walking out, the trauma ofgiving birth to babies and families, the tortuous wander betweenlust and love, these are the dilemmas that haunt this film.Based on a classical Bengali novel by Sunil Gangopadhyay,Ore Kadal is set in an India that is moving rapidly towardsglobalization - a background where socio-cultural changes areoverturning age-old value systems of the middle class so swiftlythat the dividing lines between right and wrong, loyalty andbetrayal, honesty and deceit, grow increasingly blurred, trappingthe two protagonists in a limbo of self-torture they must livewith.CAST AND CREDITSProduced by:Based on:Screenplayand Direction:Cinematography:Editing:Music:Cast:Contact:VindhyanA novel by Sunil GangopadhyayShyamaprasadAlagappanVinod SukumaranOuseppachanMammootty, Meera Jasmine, Narein,Remya KrishnanVindhyan for Rasika Entertainments,23, Ambady Retreat, ChelavannoorRoad, Kadavabthara Post, Kochi – 20,Kerela, India.
