SYNOPSISDHARM(Religion)35mm/colour/Hindi/103 minutes/EST'Dharm' is a film set in Benares, the oldest and holiest Hinducity of India, a city at the banks of the river Ganges where itis believed that Hindus go to wash their sins.It is the story of Pandit Chaturvedi, a Hindu Brahmin priestwho fastidiously, almost fanatically practices his religion, as perthe ancient Hindu scriptures. He follows the prescribed ritualsof prayers as well as the social practice of casteism, whichordain that he is a Brahmin, the most superior human being andthen there are others, who are untouchables.An abandoned infant comes into Pandit Chaturvedi's life andhome. He adopts the child and names him Kartikey. Bringing upKartikey as a good Brahmin fills Pandit's life with joy and laughter,till the day he learns that Kartikey is a Muslim. To PanditChaturvedi and his beliefs, it's a sin.He turns Kartikey away but the memories of the four yearsof Kartikey's childhood challenge the very core of PanditChaturvedi's belief in Hinduism, the 4000 years old way of life.What will persist, his love for this child or his love for God, hisreligion?
