This very young team, made up of gr. 6 and 7
students, showed tremendous courage, as
they faced older, bigger and more
experienced opponents throughout the
season. They made great strides, both
individually and as a team, and managed to
net 2 beautiful goals, in their game against
Hawthorn School. Congratulations, Ladies!
Rugby
Sr. Boys Rugby
GP: 5 W: 3 L: 2 T: 0
The rugby men put up a valiant fight, but
conceded a very close semi-final game to
Crestwood Prep, on Wednesday, May 20th.
Final score: CPC 10, SJK 8. Congratulations on
an outstanding season of rugby.
CISAA SILVER MEDALLISTS
U14 Boys Rugby
GP: 4 W: 0 L: 4 T: 0
This was SJK’s first U14 boys’ rugby team in
several years. The team made some
impressive progress over the course of the
very short spring season, under the expert
guidance of coaches Cunningham and
Paleczny, qualifying for the play-offs. They
have built a very solid rugby foundation upon
which the program may continue to grow in
future years.
Badminton
1st Badminton
The badminton team wrapped up their
season, on Wednesday, May 20th, with the
CISAA Championships @ Humber College. All
SJK competitors played very well, earning the
opportunity to play, on average, 4 matches
over the course of the day. Congratulations on
such a strong finish to the season!
U16 Badminton
This team was small in numbers, but huge in
heart. They fought tenaciously at every outing,
making great individual gains over the course
of the season. Play wrapped up with the
CISAA Championship, on Wednesday, May
20th, @ Humber College, where all SJK
competitors played several strong matches.
U14 Badminton
At the CISAA championship, on Wednesday,
May 20th @ Upper Canada College, both Tyler
Watson (2nd Singles - silver) and Todd
Brecher (3rd Singles - bronze) came away
with medals. Congratulations on a great
season!
Track & Field
Jr. Track & Field
Many individual personal bests have been
earned over the course of the season. The
CISAA championship was held on
Wednesday, May 20th @ York University.
Sr. Track
This team had great success at the recent
CISAA league championship meet, held at York
University. Several individuals have qualified for
the Metro Regionals, May 25 and 26th @ U of
T. CISAA results: C. Buchanan - 3rd 400 m; K.
Weigensberg - 1st 300 m hurdles, 1st long
jump, 4th 100 m hurdles; J. Kochuk - 4th
400m, 4th long jump; E. Kirby - 3rd long jump;
M. Barber - 5th 3000m; midget girls relay team
(C. Buchanan, E. Colter, H. Chaplin, L. Ricciatti)...
all have qualified for Metro Regional
Championships, Mon May 25th and Tues May
26th @ Varsity Stadium,Toronto. GOOD LUCK!

Mountain Bike Club
This hearty group enjoyed rides at Guelph
Lake, Grand Valley, The Hydro Club, Puslinch,
and Dundas Valley Conservation Area.
Rowing Team
In 2008-09, SJK had both a women’s crew
(double) and a men’s crew (coxed 4). The
women’s crew of Jess Wilson and Aimee
Puthon competed in Welland this past
weekend, in the 2nd High School Invitational
Regatta of the season, hosted by the South
Niagara Rowing Club, finishing 24th out of 24
crews in the Senior Women Doubles category.
The men’s crew (Ken McAndrews, Joel
Wilson, Andy Wilson, Greg Rogers, Mike
McLaren) participated in their first regatta on
June 5-6, as they competed in the prestigious
Canadian Schoolboys’ Highschool Invitational.
