UYF hosted girls from Sharpeville take a girl child to workMoving operations to scale poses an opportunity for the organisation to learn newthings including career growth for staff as we roll out the Retail Outlets or <strong>Youth</strong> AdvisoryCentres.The implementation of the HR IT System has been a major project that has helped theHR Division to work smarter in terms of leveraging UYF’s service delivery and efficiency.The system integrates data on strategy, performance management, payroll and training.The human resources scorecard was intended to link people, strategy and organisationalperformance.Information and Communication Technology (ICT)The focus of the ICT Division has been on alignment and implementation of the UYF ICTstrategy with business.Financial ManagementThe Financial Management Divisionremained unchanged, consisting of thefollowing support units:• Finance and <strong>Report</strong>ing• Risk• Procurement• Facilities and AdministrationThe Chief Financial Officer is accountablefor this Division, and each support unitis led by a Manager who is responsiblefor the strategic planning and day-to-dayoperations.The core function of the ICT Division is to provide support to the UYF ICT Infrastructure andits end users. This includes overall security management and fire control of the UYF.Major achievements for the year were the development of the information securitypolicies and business continuity in accordance with good corporate governance and theredevelopment of the business continuity plan and the disaster recovery that has beeninitiated in the current year.Part of the ICT strategy focused on aligning technology with business requirements. Thestrategy included integration with programmes in respect of ICT support. All targets withrespect to the above were met; i.e. successful implementation of an electronic financialsystem upgrade, documentation of the ICT processes for the Quality Management System(QMS), improvement of general support and procurement (ensuring adherence to theprocurement policy) of services and technology and the introduction of Osizweni helpdesk,affording users mobile computing and improving remote access to the UYF infrastructure.Finance and <strong>Report</strong>ing UnitThe Finance Unit, led by the FinanceManager, is responsible for the traditionalaccounting, cash management andfinancial reporting.During the year under review, this Unitimproved its system and processes toalign itself with the <strong>Fund</strong>’s businessrequirements. Capacity has been increasedto meet the <strong>Fund</strong>’s growth trajectory.Together with the Procurement Unit, itimplemented the electronic PurchaseOrder System to automate the requisition,authorisation and payment of purchases.<strong>Umsobomvu</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Fund</strong> <strong>2006</strong> <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong>27
