Young people are vettedby business development officers thenassisted with vouchers which they use topay for services provided by a network ofaccredited service providers. The servicesinclude business planning, tender advice,marketing support etc.In the period under review the programme assisted about 5 600 young people nationallyand led to the creation or sustenance of 6 500 jobs. The table below provides additionalimpact data:Total beneficiaries 5 608Jobs created 6 851Businesses established 4 069Young women 2 198Rural entrepreneurs assisted 1 389Young people with disability 76Capital raised R77 853 912Tenders secured R64 580 087Business Opportunities Support ServiceThe Business Opportunities Support Service (BOSS) is an <strong>Umsobomvu</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Fund</strong>initiative aimed at assisting youth entrepreneurs to access identified businessopportunities through technical assistance, mentorship and funding; thereby increasingthe participation of young people in the country’s mainstream economy and alsoadvancing the Government’s objective of broadening economic empowerment amongthe historically disadvantaged individuals. The implementation of the programme ischaracterised by the continuous pursuance of market opportunities for the youth-ownedenterprises and the linkage of such companies to those identified opportunities. Sincethe establishment of BOSS in mid-2005 about 1 700 retail and vending opportunitieshave been sourced for young people.20
