MIRA LisaIrrepressible Expression of Human SpiritualityWorks at Marion Meyer Contemporary Art354 North Coast Highway, Laguna BeachArt Reception – September 6 th , 6 pm-9 pmShowing September 6 th – 30 th , 2007Mira Lisa creates brightly colored, abstract expressionist paintingsfrom her heart – a heart that knows joy, love, a connection withhumanity and a spiritual awakening.Painting with oils, acrylics, palette knife and brushes, she strives toconnect artistically to the larger world, recalling the philosophy ofWassily Kandinsky, who believed in the social responsibility of artists. She cites the words of Paul Gauguin, “Art is either plagiarism or arevolution.”The painter who also writes poetry says, “Painting is my meditation,my solace. I become one with the canvas, paint and brush. As I work, Iseek to embrace my true self, and share my creativity with humanity.”

Mira Lisa studied art as a child and later with Francois Gilot, Picasso’sformer lover and apprentice. “She was very elegant and patient, taughtme about the importance of passion in art, composition and design.”In 2000, Mira Lisa attended a Buddhist Meeting. “The first time Ichanted ‘Nam Myoho Renge Kyo,’ I felt a deeper sense of hope andempowerment. I felt confidence and belief in myself, then my olddreams of painting full-time, of creating valuable work returned, alongwith my mission for creating beauty in society.”In 2001, Mira Lisa had an epiphany. “I can be a successful artist. It isnot too late. I started by drawing a face. I surrounded that face withexpressive figures, influenced by petroglyphs. I worked with colorsinspired by Matisse, Chagall and Gauguin. Mira’s works from thatperiod are mystical and iconographic, filled with symbolism and figuresreminiscent of jewels. She explains, “Primitive people created art toconnect with the spiritual world. They were in rhythm with nature. OnceI started painting seriously again, I felt purpose in my life.”Russ Albright, her agent, explains, “Mira’s works express wonder, aswell as harmony of color and composition.” Marion MeyerContemporary Art will feature Mira Lisa’s works on Thursday,September 6, 2007. Marion explains, “Abstract expressionist works aremy favorites, and Mira Lisa’s paintings are very creative, artisticallyand spiritually.”Mira Lisa believes, “Creativity is an engagement with my soul, ajourney of my spirit, a union with beauty.” She is inspired by DaisakuIkeda, a Buddhist philosopher. In an address to the Académie desBeaux-Arts, Paris, he said, “Art is the irrepressible expression ofhuman spirituality. Into each one of the myriad concrete forms of art isimpressed the symbol of ultimate reality, what might be called cosmicforce.”A Visual Engagement of Color: MIRA LISAMARION MEYER CONTEMPORARY ART354 North Coast Highway, Laguna Beach 949-497-5442www.marionmeyergallery.comwww.miralisa.com
