After only a single glance, you are sure to fall in love with <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Chief</strong> <strong>Hector</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong>. Surrounded by mountains, forests, open<br />

fields and glassy lakes, <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Chief</strong> <strong>Hector</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong> is a dream-like get-away from the every day for both youth and adults alike.<br />

Welcome to <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Chief</strong> <strong>Hector</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong>!<br />

CAMP ROAD<br />

<strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Chief</strong> <strong>Hector</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong> is located just one-hour<br />

west of <strong>Calgary</strong> on a beautiful 1000-acre site in the<br />

Bow Valley.<br />

This road will take you past the Bowfort end of<br />

camp, past our Outripping Centre and ends at<br />

<strong>Hector</strong> Lodge.<br />

HECTOR LODGE EXTERIOR<br />

Refurbished in 2005, <strong>Hector</strong> Lodge serves as the<br />

dining hall and indoor meeting area for <strong>Hector</strong><br />

Spring School and ROPES programs in the spring,<br />

and camp programming during the summer<br />

months.


HECTOR LODGE LNTERIOR<br />

<strong>Hector</strong> Lodge features a fully staffed kitchen,<br />

indoor washroom facilities and a cozy fireplace. It is<br />

our largest day use facility. <strong>Hector</strong> Lodge can<br />

accommodate meetings, weddings and special<br />

events.<br />

<strong>Hector</strong> Lodge seats up to 450 individuals.<br />

WASH SHACK EXTERIOR<br />

The <strong>Hector</strong>-end Wash Shack is located just to the<br />

North of <strong>Hector</strong> Lodge. The Wash Shack is used<br />

throughout the spring and summer months as a<br />

washroom and shower facility.<br />

WASH SHACK INTERIOR<br />

The Wash Shack contains six bathroom stalls and a<br />

large shower room. The shelving unit is used to<br />

store scented items like shampoo, deodorant,<br />

toothpaste and soap so wildlife cannot access<br />

them.


EAGLE LODGE<br />

This lodge features an old stone fireplace and can<br />

be used as a quaint meeting facility.<br />

Eagle Lodge is used as an indoor campfire facility<br />

for rainy days during outdoor school and summer<br />

seasons.<br />

HECTOR HEALTH CENTRE EXTERIOR<br />

<strong>Hector</strong> Health Centre is where teachers stay during<br />

outdoor school in the spring and where campers go<br />

when they are feeling under the weather in the<br />

summer.<br />

This building can also be rented to private groups<br />

September through June.<br />

HECTOR HEALTH CENTRE INTERIOR<br />

This facility has all the amenities that groups may<br />

need including a full kitchen, laundry facilities, four<br />

bathrooms, seven bedrooms and a meeting<br />

area/family room.


<strong>Hector</strong> Health Centre Interior<br />

Groups can bring food to prepare their own<br />

homemade meals. All dishware and cookware<br />

come included in rentals.<br />

HECTOR HEALTH CENTRE INTERIOR<br />

The bedrooms are a combination of single beds and<br />

bunk beds spread throughout the two stories.<br />

The <strong>Hector</strong> Health Centre sleeps 16. Guests provide<br />

their own bedding.<br />

HECTOR TOWER<br />

This adventure tower was generously donated by<br />

the Alberta Treasury Branch in 2007 and is<br />

primarily used in our summer camp programming.


WATERFRONT<br />

<strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Chief</strong> <strong>Hector</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong> is home to Chilver Lake<br />

and two magnificent waterfront areas that are used<br />

for swimming, canoeing and wildlife viewing.<br />

OUTRIPPING CENTRE<br />

Our Outripping Centre is the starting and ending<br />

point for all of our summer trips. Route and menu<br />

planning, and gear and food packing sessions all<br />

take place at this facility.<br />

The Outripping Centre is also used for the<br />

R.O.P.E.S. program in the spring season.<br />

BOWFORT LODGE EXTERIOR<br />

Open year-round, Bowfort Lodge is the dining hall<br />

and indoor meeting space for outdoor programs,<br />

specialty groups, school programs, and six-day<br />

summer camps, day camps and Family <strong>Camp</strong>s.<br />

Bowfort Lodge seats up to 150 individuals.


BOWFORT LODGE INTERIOR<br />

Bowfort Lodge has a full kitchen, fireplace and<br />

meeting area, and is home to <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Chief</strong> <strong>Hector</strong><br />

<strong>YMCA</strong>'s administrative offices.<br />

TIPI EXTERIOR<br />

Our twenty-eight-foot canvas tipis sleep eight<br />

campers and two staff in bunk beds with<br />

mattresses.<br />

Tipis are the primary accommodation for campers<br />

in the spring and summer months.<br />

TIPI INTERIOR<br />

The fire pit in the centre adds to the camp<br />

atmosphere and provides extra warmth on chilly<br />

nights.<br />

All tipis are equipped with a full water bucket, a fire<br />

grate and a fire extinguisher.


WASH ST<strong>AND</strong><br />

Each tipi section has a wash stand for campers to<br />

wash their hands, face and teeth after they wake<br />

up each morning and before they go to bed each<br />

night.<br />

HIGH ROPES<br />

The high ropes course is a chance to take adventure<br />

to new heights!<br />

All elements are designed with team building in<br />

mind and provide a role for anyone in the group<br />

who wishes to participate.<br />

The high elements consist of beams, poles,<br />

platforms, wires and ropes 40 to 70 feet above the<br />

ground.


TEAM SWING <strong>AND</strong> FLYING SQUIRREL<br />

The Team Swing is an exhilarating swing experience<br />

from a height that each participant is comfortable<br />

with - up to 60 feet.<br />

The Flying Squirrel is an element that gives each<br />

participant the opportunity to be lifted into the air<br />

on a static line by the other members of the group.<br />

LOW ROPES<br />

Our low ropes course consists of elements<br />

anywhere from 1 to 4 feet off the ground.<br />

Participants traverse these elements, including<br />

clatter bridges, ropes, swings and tire crossings, in<br />

groups of three.<br />

CHALLENGE COURSE<br />

Teams of campers take on the Challenge Course to<br />

learn about teamwork and trust.<br />

Participants have the opportunity to build upon the<br />

lessons of each experience as they go through the<br />

various Challenge Course elements.


CLIMBING TOWER<br />

<strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Chief</strong> <strong>Hector</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong>'s outdoor climbing tower<br />

allows campers and other visitors to test their<br />

limits, challenge themselves and be amazed by<br />

what they can accomplish.<br />

LONG HOUSE EXTERIOR<br />

The Long House is camp's largest overnight facility<br />

and is used primarily for school programs, weekend<br />

programs and private facility rentals year-round.<br />

LONG HOUSE INTERIOR<br />

The Long House has 13 bedrooms with two<br />

bunkbeds in each. There is also one large room at<br />

the front of the building that sleeps 12.<br />

The Long House has a total sleeping capacity of 64.<br />

Guests provide their own bedding.

The Long House has two washrooms, each with<br />

three toilets, two sinks and two showers.<br />

ARCHERY <strong>AND</strong> ATLATL RANGE<br />

<strong>Camp</strong>ers learn new skills, have fun and develop<br />

hand-eye coordination at the various archery and<br />

atlatl ranges that we have on-site.<br />

CORRALS<br />

The corrals are where groups arrive to learn how to<br />

groom and saddle, learn the basics of<br />

horsemanship and get to know their horses.<br />

<strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Chief</strong> <strong>Hector</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong> keeps around 100 horses<br />

at its main site and at the Outpost site.


HORSES<br />

Depending on their program, campers may ride in<br />

the arena, on trails, or even take part in a camp<br />

rodeo!<br />

<strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Chief</strong> <strong>Hector</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong> also has Farm Friends in<br />

the summer months so campers can interact and<br />

play with goats and sheep.<br />

POOL EXTERIOR<br />

Each tipi group in the summer season can sign up<br />

to go to a session at the pool. The pool is a safe and<br />

fun place to play games and cool off on hot<br />

summer days.<br />

A certified lifeguard is always present while the<br />

pool is in use.<br />

POOL INTERIOR<br />

The enclosed swimming pool is used to test<br />

campers' swimming skills before they head out on<br />

canoe trips.<br />

The pool also has washroom and shower facilities.


FAMILY CABIN<br />

The Family Cabin is used as home base for the<br />

animal game during the outdoor school seasons<br />

and as the Arts and Crafts Centre during the<br />

summer season and Family <strong>Camp</strong>.<br />

BOWFORT HEALTH CENTRE EXTERIOR<br />

Also known as Knowplace, the Bowfort Health<br />

Centre is ideal for small groups. It features seven<br />

rooms, each with a single bunk bed, and two<br />

washrooms with showers.<br />

This building is used primarily as teacher<br />

accommodation during the outdoor school seasons<br />

and as the Health Centre during the summer<br />

season.<br />

BOWFORT HEALTH CENTRE INTERIOR<br />

The Bowfort Health Centre has a small kitchen and<br />

meeting area, equipped with a microwave and<br />

small fridge.<br />

Bowfort Health Centre has a sleeping capacity of<br />

14. Guests provide their own bedding.


DIAMOND CROSS <strong>AND</strong> EY CLUSTERS EXTERIOR<br />

The Clusters are located just to the west of Bowfort<br />

Lodge. These buildings are primarily used for<br />

outdoor school groups, weekend programs and<br />

with younger campers in the summer months.<br />

The Clusters feature three rooms of seven bunk<br />

beds and a large central common area for games<br />

and socializing.<br />

Each building sleeps 42. Guests provide their own<br />

bedding.<br />

Each Cluster has two washrooms, each with two<br />

toilets, two showers and two sinks.


OLD LODGE EXTERIOR<br />

One of the original buildings on our site, this rustic<br />

lodge features an old stone fireplace and is the<br />

perfect location for small meetings and activities.<br />

It is located just north of Bowfort Lodge.<br />

OLD LODGE INTERIOR<br />

The Old Lodge is primarily used as an indoor<br />

programming facility for outdoor school and<br />

summer seasons.<br />

OUTPOST SITE<br />

<strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Chief</strong> <strong>Hector</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong>'s Outpost site is located<br />

in the Yaha Tinda region of the Rocky Mountains<br />

200km northwest of <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Chief</strong> <strong>Hector</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong>. It is<br />

situated along the upper Red Deer River where<br />

grasslands support elk, bighorn sheep, wolves and<br />

grizzly bears.<br />

<strong>Camp</strong>ers stay in tipis and enjoy a variety of<br />

activities in and around this site.
