When each new ship’s technology is researched, anew pod is built onto the modification center. Though theyare attached to the center, each pod has its own shieldsand can be targeted independently from the mainstructure. If the modification center is destroyed, all pods on the center aredestroyed with it. A modification center can build the following pods:Tachyon Detection Grid—DetectorTranswarp Drive—InterceptorAuto-Assimilator—AssimilatorRegeneration—SphereHolding Beam—CubeSpecial Energy Recharger—Harmonic DefenderTechnology AssimilatorThe Borg use the Technology Assimilator station tosupplement the special weapons of all of its fleet’scubes. When an assimilated ship is fed into the technologyassimilator, any special weapon that it has is addedto the Cubes’ repertoire. The appropriate node is thenadded to a spoke on the Technology Assimilator, whilethe enemy vessel is destroyed.Researched at the Technology Assimilator, the Collective Hub is the technologythat is necessary to assemble Fusion Cubes and Tactical Fusion Cubes out ofgroupings of eight Cubes or Tactical Cubes.Advanced Assembly MatrixThe Borg Advanced Assembly Matrix has two bays,one for repair and one for construction, like its smallercounterpart. The Advanced Assembly Matrix canbuild Cube, Tactical Cube, Harmonic Defender, andDiamond-class ships.Technology NodeThe Borg Technology Node allows you to modify theDiamond-class vessels. When each new technology isacquired, a new pod is built onto the technology node.Though they are attached to the node, each pod has itsown shield and can be targeted independently from themain structure. If the technology node is destroyed, allpods on the facility are destroyed with it. The technologynode can build the following pods:Shield Remodulation—DiamondComputer Override—DiamondNanites—DiamondUltrium Burst—DiamondBorg Ship Upgrade FacilityThe Borg Ship Upgrade Facility is the Collective’s centerfor research and upgrades on shipboard systems. Thereare five separate ship systems that can be researchedand upgraded at the facility: weapons, shields, sensors,engines, and life support. The systems can each be upgraded by two levels:level 2 and level 3. Though they are attached to the facility, each pod has itsown shields and can be targeted independently from the main structure. If theBorg Ship Upgrade Facility is destroyed, all pods on the facility are destroyedwith it.Transwarp GateThe Transwarp Gate allows the Collective to open a transwarpconduit from the gate’s origin to another location.Any number of vessels can travel either way through theconduit while it is open. The tremendous energy requiredto maintain the conduit prevents it from being openpermanently.52 53
