Each system can be upgraded by twolevels: level 2 and level 3. Though they are attached to the institute, each podhas its own shields and can be targeted independently from the main structure.If the Vulcan research institute is destroyed, all pods on the institute aredestroyed with it.Temporal Research FacilityRecent breakthroughs in temporal mechanics havecaused Starfleet to devote entire facilities to betterunderstand time and how it is affected or manipulatedin the universe. These research facilities have been ableto create a temporal stasis field within a confined areaof space. Modifications to their quantum signaturesprevent allied ships from being affected by the stasis field. However, all enemyactivity in that area is frozen until the field destabilizes and time is restored.Regular use of this device is still under debate by the Federation Council, andfor now has only been granted in times of war or under extreme circumstances.KLINGON EMPIREThe Klingon Empire was founded over 1,500 years ago on the planet of Qo’nosby Kahless the Unforgettable. Klingons are a humanoid warrior civilizationbound by pride, tradition, and honor. Their violent and aggressive nature hasmade them an interstellar power to be respected. Each chapter of the Empire’sexistence has been wrought through war and violence, then scrawled upon thepages of history with the blood of the dishonored. The Klingon Empire’s rulingbody has fluctuated throughout history between an Emperor or the KlingonHigh Council. The current Klingon Chancellor is Martok, who assumed the titleafter Worf, son of Mogh, killed the previous Chancellor in a duel.THE KLINGON FLEETNON-COMBAT SHIPSFreighterThe Klingon Freighter uses its mining beams to extractand transport dilithium, and latinum, carrying the loadto mining stations for processing. As with all Klingonvessels, the freighter is armed—it is equipped with aforward-firing phaser. Captaining a Klingon Freighter isconsidered a dishonor, usually reserved for the old ordying.Construction ShipThe Klingon construction ship is loaded with a team ofworkers in its cargo bay. When constructing a station,one-man shuttlecraft are deployed from the constructionvessel. While the construction ship transports theraw materials, the workers assemble the areas withwelding lasers. Along with a forward-firing phaser, theconstruction ship is also equipped with a tractor beam,allowing it to tow derelicts and ships with disabledengines.34 35
