Jean-Luc Godard was born into a Swiss family in France in 1930. In 1959 he shot his
fi rst feature fi lm Breathless. By the early 1960s Jean-Luc Godard was probably the
most discussed director in the world.

In 1947, aged 15, he founded a fi lm club and met André Bazin, a French critic, who
becomes his protector. In 1953, he published his fi rst movie critiques in “Les Cahiers du
Cinema.” Th e year 1957 founded his own production company “Les Films du Carrosse”.
His fi rst full-length fi lm Les Quatre cents coups was the fi rst acclaimed fi lm of the New
Wave. Truff aut’s main themes were passion, women, childhood and faithfulness.
