CLARE DOWNS<br />
SCREEN DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT, TRAINER, WRITER<br />
CLARE DOWNS began her career in fi lm promoting Oshima’s EMPIRE OF THE SENSES in the US,<br />
was co-director of the Association of Independent Producers from 1978-1980 and Director of International<br />
Creative Aff airs for the Ladd Company/Warner Bros from 1981-1983.<br />
She produced THE DRESS in 1984, the feature, HIGH SEASON, starring Jacqueline Bisset and Kenneth<br />
Branagh, which won the award for the best screenplay at the San Sebastian Film Festival in<br />
1987. In this period she developed the award winning South African screenplay, (BAFTA, Cannes),<br />
A WORLD APART.<br />
Clare Downs teaches the MA course in producing and development at the National Film and Television<br />
School in the UK, gives classes at Leicester de Montfort University, Leeds University, Praxis,<br />
Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, and the International Film School in Cuba.<br />
She also holds script editing workshops internationally and has her own Script Development consultancy,<br />
working on individual projects with both fi lm funds and fi lmmakers throughout the world.<br />
