Porter County's first court house, aframe structure, was built in November,1837. Nearly 30 years later, a new brickcourt house was erected on the publicsquare.Around midnight, December 27, 1934,fire raged through the court house, destroyingthe clock tower, public documents,and the law library. By morning,only a shell remained. A white limestone,four-story structure, the courthouse was rebuilt from the remainingfoundations and dedicated on October30, 1937.PIONEER NATIONAL TITLE INSURANCE CO.
