The old Christian Hospital, still standing at 106Jefferson Street, opened in March 1906, with sevenbeds. Maintained by the Christian Church, <strong>Porter</strong><strong>County</strong>'s only hospital, could accommodate a maximum<strong>of</strong> 25 patients.A new unit was built on LaPorte Avenue in December1939.' Today <strong>Porter</strong> Memorial Hospital is a 340­bed, <strong>County</strong> owned General Hospital.
