Greetings from 2nd Platoon!
We have continued to grow and overcome
the many challenges faced in early June and have
been busy over the last several weeks. The Platoon
was given the opportunity to conduct an extended
mission for a week with the Afghan National
Security Forces (ANSF) in a local village outside the
FOB. The Platoon was fully immersed in the local
populace; living amongst the people in an attempt
to demonstrate our commitment to the security of
the villages in our Area of Operations (AO). Over
the course of our stay the men had the opportunity
to talk and play sports with the children, train with
both the Afghan National Army (ANA) and Afghan
National Police (ANP), and provide Humanitarian
Assistance to the villagers. The men have
witnessed a subtle change in the perception of the
local nationals in the area.
Soldiers enjoyed playing soccer and volleyball
Additionally, the Platoon made the trip
south to Kandahar Air Field to receive our new
Strykers. The new vehicles provide additional armor
and are designed to improve survivability from
IEDs. It is also a welcome change to have operational
air conditioning inside the trucks as the temperature
has climbed into the 100s. The trip also
provided the soldiers a chance to receive some well deserved
rest and relaxation. We are back at the FOB and
continuing to endure and overcome the many challenges
Afghanistan has to offer. The men continue to make
their leadership proud everyday as we have the opportunity
to watch their continuous growth.
Thank you all for the continued support of the
soldiers of 2nd Platoon and Bravo Company.
