What to do in Dublin & Cork
Sightseeing
Dublin: Unmissable attractions include the
Guinness Storehouse, the Old Jameson
Distillery, Dublin Castle, Trinity College and St
Patrick’s Cathedral. Enjoy a voyage of discovery
from the Arctic to the Plains of Africa via Indian
Rainforest at Dublin Zoo or take a walk down to
Phoenix Park, the largest urban park in Europe.
Cork: Cork has a unique history. Visit the Cork
Butter Museum and the landmark cathedral on
Dean Street.
Shopping
Dublin: Dublin’s two main shopping districts
are located no more than a 20 minute walk
away from each other. On the north side of the
river is Dublin’s largest shopping centre, The
Jervis Centre. On the south side of the river is
the fashionably upmarket Grafton Street, where
some of Dublin’s most exclusive designer
shops can be found as well as the many
entertaining street performers. Popular with
tourists is the Blackrock Market, selling locally
produced arts, crafts and food.
Cork: A top shopping destination with elegant
department stores. Gourmet food lovers must
visit The English Market on Grand Parade.
Eating & Drinking
Dublin: The dining scene in Dublin is booming
and a new trend in Celtic cuisine, known as
‘modern Irish’ has become increasingly popular.
The cobblestone streets of Temple Bar district,
as well as the Trinity College area, offer a
wonderful selection of eateries. Temple Bar is
by far the most popular nightlife scene with
around 24 bars and 73 cafes and restaurants
to choose from. Grafton Street provides a
much quieter and relaxed alternative. Wine bars
are also becoming a popular addition to
Dublin’s nightlife, providing good wine and
reasonably priced meals.
Cork: Savour top restaurants and cool bars.
Bodega is probably the most popular bar in
Cork with a hip, trendy feel. Highly acclaimed
international and traditional Irish food can be
found across the city. Try The English Market
for a Cork-style lunch.
Getting Around
Dublin: The new light rail service known as
LUAS now offers two lines with numerous
stations, many of them giving easy access to
the main sights and places of interest. The city
also has an extensive bus network. Linking the
city centre with the suburbs and seaside is the
rapid transit train (DART).
Cork: The best and most cost effective way to
get around this small city is on foot.
