Andrew Do<strong>USC</strong> <strong>Marshall</strong> <strong>MBA</strong>.PM 2009Andrew Do learned a key business lesson earlyin his career. The Johns Hopkins-educ<strong>at</strong>edcomputer scientist went to work <strong>at</strong> Boeingafter receiving his master’s degree andsoon realized th<strong>at</strong>, “while you need peopleto perform the technical function, the realvalue-added is a factor<strong>of</strong> people who can fusetechnical knowledgewith businessknowledge.” Eager to“c<strong>at</strong>apult my career tothe next level,” Andrewentered the <strong>MBA</strong>. PMprogram PM program <strong>at</strong> <strong>USC</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>USC</strong><strong>Marshall</strong>.Recognizing thefinancial benefits <strong>of</strong>working while pursuing his degree, Andrewkept his job as a technical lead doingenterprise IT. He admits th<strong>at</strong> balancing workand study was “a definite challenge,” but says,“I’m a much better part-time student than afull-time one. Educ<strong>at</strong>ionalCenters, a subsidiary <strong>of</strong> Kaplan, Inc. She also has served in numerousleadership positions on campus. Todd Cushman<strong>USC</strong> <strong>Marshall</strong> E<strong>MBA</strong> 2003Todd Cushman came to <strong>USC</strong> <strong>Marshall</strong>looking to develop an entirely new skill set.The founder <strong>of</strong> a successful surgical devicemanufacturing and distribution business, Toddeventually sold his company to Medtronic, aglobal leader in medical technology. Now part<strong>of</strong> a vastly larger corpor<strong>at</strong>eenvironment, the Browneduc<strong>at</strong>edentrepreneurrecognized th<strong>at</strong> he wouldneed the skills only an<strong>MBA</strong> could provide.Choosing <strong>USC</strong> <strong>Marshall</strong>’sE<strong>MBA</strong> program was aneasy decision. “For me,”he says, “it was perfect: Iliked the courses and thepr<strong>of</strong>essors, and the waythe program was structured enabled me tobalance a busy career and family life.” E<strong>MBA</strong>met another <strong>of</strong> Todd’s key criteria: a definedbeginning and end point. “I didn’t want to draga program out forever,” he says.
