2Making a difference in 2008Empowering Niagara residents, our community, to take control of their heart health; accomplishedby providing adolescents and adults with education, training, services and tools focused onpositive heart health choices. Increased activity, improved food choices, augmented personalhealth decisions strategies communicated through strategic alliances in and outside of Niagara.Heart Niagara receives community and corporate donations, and proceeds from special events.• Increased efforts to prepare our community to respond in case of emergency- Delivered Public Access Defibrillation Program in 81 sites with 148 unitsplaced to date across Niagara- Taught bystander CPR to more than 13,000 people in the Niagara Region- Delivered training to over 300 workplace employees• Delivered the Healthy Heart Schools’ Program- To over 5,000 grade nine students in 32 secondary schools- Delivered CPR training to over 2,000 Grade 7 and 8 students• Entered into a partnership with Sick Kids Hospital and Dr. Brian McCrindle toresearch the outcomes of the Healthy Heart Schools’ Program• Provided leadership through Niagara on the Move to support TREKZONE obesitystrategy and Healthy Living Niagara• Supported the physician recruitment in Niagara Falls• Administered the Niagara Physician Recruitment Program across Niagara’s 12 municipalities• Provided infrastructure to bring Docs on Ice to Niagara April 16-18, 2009- Welcoming 750 Ontario physicians to play hockey and enjoy Niagara amenities• Worked with the Niagara Region Public Health Department to improve access tosmoke cessation in Niagara.• Celebrated Family Day with Fit for the Future on Saturday February 16, 2008Over 3,500 people came out to share activity, healthy choices, sport opportunities andstrategies to strengthen Niagara. Trained over 360,000 people CPR in 31 years. Delivered cardiac rehab services for over 28 years. Provided cardiac rehab services to over 6,500 patients with over 88,300 visits. Developed the secondary school program in 1987 in partnership withPublic Health and the School Boards. Reached over 54,000 grade 9 students since 1987. Delivered CPR training to over 28,500 grade 9 students since 2000. Developed an elementary school CPR program in 2004. Delivered CPR training to over 10,000 grade 7 & 8 students since 2003. Participated in bringing two US marathon Olympic Trials to Canada. Provided expertise to over 60 marathons with support from volunteerhealth professionals. Participated in bringing 750 Ontario Physician’s to Niagara forDocs on Ice 2009 April 16-18, 2009. Provided support to over 30 regional, provincial and international events.
