The maininterconnecting grid structure has a highstrength-to-weight ratio, using contaminationfree and corrosion resistant aluminum alloytubular pontoons and extruded channelbeams. These flotation pontoons andstructural members provide maximumflotation and strength capable of withstandingloads generated by product turbulence andinspection personnel.UNIDECK roofs are known for their ruggedconstruction, durability and efficiency. They arelight-weight, corrosion resistant and virtuallymaintenance free.The UNIDECK peripheral rim and deckpenetrations isolate and trap product vapors,preventing their escape into the atmosphere.Several types of primary and secondary sealsincluding stainless steel mechanical shoeprimary seals are available, all of which aredesigned to accommodate wide variations inthe tank shell and the rim space.All UNIDECK component parts are designed topass through an existing shell manway, therebyeliminating additional expense and downtimerequired for door sheets and other accessopenings. The UNIDECK® Roof’s UniqueDesign Features Include theFollowing:• The UNIDECK roof is completelyconstructed without welding and canfit through a 24 inch manway, allowingfor much faster installation and quickertank turnaround.• The UNIDECK roof can be altered to ahybrid stainless steel/aluminum designwhen the stored product is not completelycompatible with the aluminum alloy.• The UNIDECK roof can be cable suspendedfrom either cone roof tanks or geodesicdome roofs. The option allows roof heightadjustments to be completed from theoutside of the tank. With no leg structureunder the roof; cleaning, inspection andrepairs to the tank bottom are simplified.• PTE (Teflon®) UNIPAD insulators are used toinsulate the aluminum leg from the carbonsteel tank. This prevents the commonissues associated with dissimilar metals.• The UNIDECK design reduces the commonfailure modes of skin and pontoon roofs byreinforcing the pontoon gussetsand end caps through a unique andproprietary method.• Support pads are utilized between the decksheeting and the leg support housing toprevent potential damage to the deckssheeting during normal operation.• The girder structure is designed with amaximum spacing of 5 feet, pontoonspacing is a maximum of 10 feet andmaximum pontoon length is 28 feet.• The UNIDECK roof is easily fitted with amechanical shoe seal utilizing a laminatedTeflon vapor barrier fabric.
