Dear Members,The solitary flame of the yahrzeit candleis a silent tribute to the preciousnessand indestructibility of the human soul…The walls inside our small chapel are filled with memorial plaques that honor theloved ones of members of our synagogue. Why do we buy plaques? Our Torah talksof Abraham paying for a resting place and marker for his beloved Sara after shepassed away. This tradition has continued, and a stone of some kind marks all <strong>Jewish</strong>graves before the year is up. An additional marking is placement of a memorialplaque in the synagogue. The plaque honors the deceased, is a visual remembranceof that person, and is a comforting marker for the family members.We hope that this method of memorializing your loved one will appeal to you andyour family as it has for Jews for many generations. You will receive annualnotification of the Yahrzeit and the reminder for the recitation of the Kaddish.If you would like to purchase a plaque for a loved one, please call Betsy or Helainein the temple office at 599-2634.
