The following chart is a guide only.<strong>Level</strong><strong>Red</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Swim</strong><strong>Preschool</strong> – Starfish<strong>Red</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Swim</strong><strong>Preschool</strong> – Duck<strong>Red</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Swim</strong><strong>Preschool</strong> – Sea Turtle<strong>Red</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Swim</strong><strong>Preschool</strong> – Sea Otter<strong>Red</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Swim</strong><strong>Preschool</strong> – Salamander<strong>Red</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Swim</strong><strong>Preschool</strong> – SunfishParticipant requirementto register4-12 months of age, ableto hold their head up,and participating with aparent or caregiver(assisted)12-24 months of age,participating with aparent or caregiver(assisted)24-36 months of age,participating with aparent or caregiver(assisted)3-5 years3-5 years, successfulcompletion of the skills in<strong>Red</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Preschool</strong>Sea Otter3-6 years, successfulcompletion of the skills in<strong>Red</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Preschool</strong>SalamanderIn this levelBabies and their caregivers work ongetting wet, buoyancy and movement,front, back and vertical position in thewater, and shallow water entries andexits.Babies and their caregivers work onrhythmic breathing, moving forward andbackward, front and back float withrecovery, and shallow water entriesand exits.Toddlers and their caregivers work onsubmersion, front and back floats andglides, jumping into chest-deep waterwith assistance, kicking on front andfront swim.<strong>Swim</strong>mers work on front and backfloats and glides, kicking on front with abuoyant object, and will be able toswim 1 metre upon completion of thislevel.<strong>Swim</strong>mers work on improving their frontand back float and jumping into chestdeepwater unassisted. Kicking isadded to the front and back glide andswimmers will be able to swim 2 metresupon completion.<strong>Swim</strong>mers work on kicking and canperform glides (front and back), enterdeep water safely, float in deep water,swim with a PFD, and swim 5 metrescontinuously.


<strong>Red</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Swim</strong><strong>Preschool</strong> – Crocodile<strong>Red</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Swim</strong><strong>Preschool</strong> – Whale3-6 years, successfulcompletion of the skills in<strong>Red</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Preschool</strong>Sunfish3-6 years, successfulcompletion of the skills in<strong>Red</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>Preschool</strong>Crocodile<strong>Swim</strong>mers further develop the front andback glide with kick, front and backswim, jump into deep water, swim witha PFD in deep water, and swim 10metres continuously.<strong>Swim</strong>mers increase their distance onfront and back glide with kick, increasedistance on front and back swim, learnthe sitting dive, and will be able to swim15 metres continuously uponcompletion of the level.
