Additionally, BAMS will have a communications relaycapability designed to link dispersed forces in the theater of operations and serve asa node in the <strong>Navy</strong>ʹs FORCEnet strategy.The FY 2011 budget also includes $266 million tocontinue the <strong>Navy</strong> Unmanned Combat Aerial System(NUCAS) program to conduct a carrier demonstrationof a low observable NUCAS platform and $26 millionto initiate an amphibious ship demonstration of aMedium Endurance Marinized Unmanned AerialSystem. The NUCAS program will demonstrate carrieroperations, including Autonomous Aerial Refueling (AAR), in order to maturetechnologies to support a potential acquisition program.TrainingThe Department of the <strong>Navy</strong> continues to workwith the Air Force to support and trainaviators with procurement of the T‐6B TexanII. The T‐6B, commonly referred to as the JointPrimary Aircraft Training Systems (JPATS),replaces the <strong>Navy</strong>’s T‐34 primary flight trainerfor entry level student naval aviators andstudent naval flight officers. The JPATS’upgraded avionics, communications and navigation systems will provide ourstudent aviators with aircraft systems more representative of what they willultimately fly.Aviation Research and DevelopmentRDT&E,N initiatives support both traditional and irregular warfare demands inseveral aviation programs. The Advanced Hawkeye will have CooperativeEngagement Capability (CEC) to modernize the E‐2C weapon systems and alsoprovide effective surveillance and battle management in support of battlespaceawareness. Tactical Aircraft Directed Infrared Countermeasures (TADIRCM)continues to develop to provide the warfighter protection against surface and air‐toairmissiles. Assault DIRCM will support rotary wing aircraft, while Strike DIRCMwill protect fixed wing aircraft.5–14 FY 2011 Department of the <strong>Navy</strong> <strong>Budget</strong>
