Itis the Department’s objective to close and realign the recommended bases at theearliest opportunity consistent with mission requirements and availability offunds to affect the construction projects and movements.Environmental ConsiderationsRemedial actions at affected bases will continue in accordance with theComprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act.These actions include landfill closures, groundwater treatments, undergroundstorage tank removals and free product removal as required.FAMILY HOUSINGThe Department continues its reliance onthe private sector as the primary source ofhousing for Sailors, Marines, and theirfamilies. The family housing budgetincludes the operation, maintenance, andrecapitalization of the family housingunits remaining in the Department’sinventory of government‐owned housing.The budget request represents thefunding level necessary to ensuregovernment‐owned housing remains adequate for Sailors, Marines, and theirfamilies.FY 2011 Department of the <strong>Navy</strong> <strong>Budget</strong> 6‐7
