In effect, if the segment (5) tries to engage the park plunger (2) bypushing on the lever (4) on the one side and if on the other the park plunger (2),since it cannot engage, resists the action of the lever (4), the lever risks beingbroken. The role of the spiral spring, by compressing, is therefore to absorb theforce transmitted by the segment (5) to the lever (4) when the park plunger (2)cannot be engaged.
