LONG LIFE LEARNING PROGRAMS FOR THE COMMUNITY<br />
Mo<strong>de</strong>rnization of Agricultural Knowledge and Information (MAKIS)<br />
The project Proiectul „ Mo<strong>de</strong>rnization of Agricultural Knowledge and Information System” (MAKIS)<br />
was implemented by the Romanian Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Rural <strong>de</strong>velopment (MADR)<br />
and the The National Veterinary and Food Safety Agency (ANVSA) by the Project Management Unit<br />
(UMP). The loan agreement between Romania and the International Bank for Reconstruction and<br />
Development concerning the financing of the project was signed on the 28 th of January, 2005 being<br />
ratified by the Law No. 170/2005. The Work Bank Council approved on the 24 th of June 2005, the<br />
enforcement of the project.<br />

The main project objectives:<br />
Within the program entitled: "Mo<strong>de</strong>rnization of Agricultural Knowledge and Information (MAKIS) ", the<br />
education and training component aims: to improve the capacity of researchers, the agricultural consultants,<br />
and the specialists in food safety, to better serve the needs and improve competitiveness of the<br />
farmers/producers and processors in the context of EU accession, to increase the access of the farmers and<br />
the processors to knowledge on technologies related to production, quality control, food safety, processing<br />
and marketing in or<strong>de</strong>r to meet the EU requirements.<br />
The general objectives:<br />
a. Improving the capacity of the agricultural researchers, the agricultural specialists in extensions and<br />
consultancy and the inspectors in the domain of the food safety, to meet better the needs of the farmers<br />
and the agro-processors from the food industry, in the context of the accession to the EU<br />
b. broa<strong>de</strong>ning the activity field of the specialized training centers for the specialists in extension and<br />
consultancy, for the inspectors in the domain of the food safety and for the agricultural researchers, by<br />
establishing of the Training and Information Center (CPI) for the North-West Region and the Central<br />
Region of Romania – the counties: Alba, Bistrita, Cluj, Harghita, Maramures, Mures, Satu Mare and Salaj<br />
