There are also internal processes concerning the entire institution, such as the selection and promotion of<br />

administrative staff, and the <strong>de</strong>velopment of new services towards society, for which the Senate has to<br />

validate the proposals, according to the national and institutional legal regulations and the university’s<br />

strategic plan.<br />

To support the <strong>de</strong>cision making process and the implementation of the strategic objectives, as well as the<br />

quality assurance of the management activities, the following structures operate at university level:<br />

Commissions of the University Senate: Didactic and education commission, Research commission,<br />

Administrative and assets commission, Social and stu<strong>de</strong>nts’ issues commission, International relations and<br />

business environment commission, Ethics commission.<br />

Support <strong>de</strong>partments: Agriculture Faculty: Soil science and mechanization, Plant culture, Environmental and<br />

plant protection, Food Engineering; Horticulture Faculty: Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Forestry,<br />

Economics, Land Measurements and Exact Sciences; Animal Husbandry and Biotechnology Faculty:<br />

Fundamental disciplines – biotechnology; Technological disciplines - animal husbandry; Veterinary Faculty:<br />

Preclinical, Animal production and food safety, Paraclinical, Clinics.<br />

University support services: Rector’s Office, University Library, Technical and Administration, Finance and<br />

Accounting, Social and Stu<strong>de</strong>nt Services, Public Relations. Communication and Public relations are of outmost<br />

importance for the aca<strong>de</strong>mic community and for implementing the university strategy. For that, all the<br />

<strong>de</strong>cision of general interest are <strong>de</strong>livered to the entire community, either on the university intranet, or posted<br />

on the university’s website.<br />

Stu<strong>de</strong>nt representation. According to the USAMV Cluj-Napoca regulations, the stu<strong>de</strong>nts are consi<strong>de</strong>red<br />

partners in the aca<strong>de</strong>mic process, being represented in all the management structures (Faculty Council,<br />

University Senate, Aca<strong>de</strong>mic Council, and Senate Board). In addition, the Ethics Committee and the Committee<br />

for Quality Evaluation and Assurance – with its subdivisions at faculty and study program levels – inclu<strong>de</strong> also<br />

members of the stu<strong>de</strong>nt community. The stu<strong>de</strong>nt resi<strong>de</strong>nces are managed by stu<strong>de</strong>nts and weekly are<br />

organized meetings of the vice-<strong>de</strong>ans responsible for stu<strong>de</strong>nts’ activities at faculty level with the stu<strong>de</strong>nts’<br />

representatives, un<strong>de</strong>r the coordination of the Vice-Rector for Social and Stu<strong>de</strong>nts issues. Stu<strong>de</strong>nts are actively<br />

involved in promoting the university by educational and sport competitions, e.g. the “Agronomiada” at<br />

national level.<br />

Even if important steps have been taken during the last years in or<strong>de</strong>r to involve the stu<strong>de</strong>nts into the<br />

<strong>de</strong>cision-making process, it seems to be still difficult for the stu<strong>de</strong>nts’ fe<strong>de</strong>ration to communicate with the<br />

large stu<strong>de</strong>nts’ mass, resulting a limited interest and involvement of the good performing stu<strong>de</strong>nts within the<br />

<strong>de</strong>cisions making process, and gaps in disseminating these <strong>de</strong>cisions among the stu<strong>de</strong>nts.<br />

Regarding the external stakehol<strong>de</strong>rs representing the economic environment, although the USAMV Cluj-<br />

Napoca current regulations do not foresee their involvement into the institutional governance, a permanent<br />

dialog with the economic and socio-cultural community is carried on, mainly in or<strong>de</strong>r to ensure an educational<br />

and research offer flexible and updated to the labor market needs.<br />

The university allows distinctions to international and national personalities, i.e. Doctor Honoris Causa and<br />

Honorary professor, from other universities, research institutes, economic and socio-cultural environment<br />

(local, national, international).<br />

The best aca<strong>de</strong>mic and administration staff is awar<strong>de</strong>d by the rector at the end of the year, according to the<br />

quality of their performance, as evaluated by the <strong>de</strong>partment of Quality Assurance.<br />

However, when consi<strong>de</strong>ring the employability of the graduates and their chances in the labor market<br />

according to their competencies, there are still actions to be taken. Periodic surveys concerning the <strong>de</strong>gree of<br />

satisfaction of graduates and employers regarding the quality of education <strong>de</strong>livered by USAMV Cluj-Napoca<br />

could be interesting and useful inputs for the aca<strong>de</strong>mic process and quality improvement. Although a system<br />

for collecting the graduates’ and alumni opinions on their studies was implemented a few years ago, we<br />
