Media Release - Strictly embargoed until 12.01am Monday 17 December <strong>2012</strong>The wait is over for almost 47,000 VCE studentsFrom Monday 17 December <strong>2012</strong> the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (<strong>ATAR</strong>) will be released to 46,939VCE qualifiers.Already over 20,000 VCE students have submitted an SMS request to 19 787 888 (call cost $1.10per registration including GST) in preparation for Monday’s release. For those who haveregistered for SMS, their VCE results and <strong>ATAR</strong> will arrive automatically from 7.00am. Instructionson registering for SMS are available on the <strong>VTAC</strong> website at www.vtac.edu.au/smsStudents can also log onto the website from 7.00am at resultsandatar.vic.edu.au using a computeror their mobile internet device.For those 46,939 students receiving an <strong>ATAR</strong>, printed <strong>ATAR</strong> statements will begin arriving onTuesday and Wednesday to all those <strong>VTAC</strong> course applicants who have paid their courseprocessing fee. For those <strong>VTAC</strong> course applicants who haven’t yet paid, the deadline for allprocessing fees for undergraduate courses is 2pm Monday 24 December <strong>2012</strong>. Unpaid processingfees will mean that the course application will lapse.Ms Elaine Wenn, Director of the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (<strong>VTAC</strong>) congratulated allstudents on their successful completion of the VCE.“The trends we’ve seen over previous years has continued, with girls outperforming boys overall,but boys continue to outnumber girls at the highest level of 99.95 with 25 boys and 12 girlsreceiving the top rank.” said Ms Wenn. “In terms of <strong>ATAR</strong>s greater than 60, 56% were girls and44% were boys. The average <strong>ATAR</strong> for girls was 66.02 and for boys it was 64.00.”There is no concept of pass or fail with the <strong>ATAR</strong>, any student receiving an <strong>ATAR</strong> has successfullycompleted the VCE and met minimum tertiary entrance requirements. It is important for studentsto remember that the <strong>ATAR</strong> is simply one of a number of factors such as interviews, folios,auditions or tests, and Special Entry Access Schemes used for tertiary selection by universities,TAFE institutes and independent tertiary colleges.


With the <strong>ATAR</strong>s now available, students should consider their <strong>ATAR</strong> in relation to their coursepreferences and make any changes through the change of preference process.
