Advances in <strong>Climate</strong> <strong>Change</strong> Science <strong>and</strong> Implications for the <strong>Tourism</strong> Sector<br />

The IPCC 192 has projected that climate change will continue throughout the 21st century, even if largescale<br />

reductions in GHG emissions occur over the next several decades. The regional manifestations <strong>of</strong><br />

climate change that are summarized above are highly relevant for tourism. The impacts <strong>of</strong> these regional<br />

climatic changes <strong>and</strong> possible adaptation strategies need to be analysed in detail, in order to account<br />

for the different geographical <strong>and</strong> societal contexts <strong>of</strong> tourism around the world. That is the purpose <strong>of</strong><br />

the following Chapters.<br />
