7.4.4 Impacts <strong>of</strong> Cyclone on Different Types <strong>of</strong> Livelihood
<strong>The</strong>re are 19 districts in the coastal belt <strong>of</strong> Bangladesh and table 03 shows the most vulnerable ones depending
on frequency <strong>of</strong> being affected by cyclone. <strong>The</strong> coastal districts are eventually vulnerable to cyclone due to
gevographical location but among those 19 coastal districts Patuakhali, Barisal, Cox’s Bazar, Khulna, Bhola,
Noakhali, Chittagong and Barguna are the most vulnerable districts depending on percentage <strong>of</strong> household
being affected by cyclones in the past 37 years.
It is a matter <strong>of</strong> great regret that almost all the districts <strong>of</strong> Bangladesh have had bad experience <strong>of</strong> suffering from
flood except for the hilly region <strong>of</strong> the country. <strong>The</strong>refore, to assess the actual impact <strong>of</strong> flood, a district wise
vulnerability and damage assessment is required. In this case, the percentage <strong>of</strong> household involved in agriculture
in each flood affected district has been calculated and their vulnerability has been assessed through multiplying
the percentage with frequency <strong>of</strong> flood. Some details have been presented in the next section <strong>of</strong> the report.
