9. Strategies and actions suggested here to deal with adverse <strong>impacts</strong> <strong>of</strong> present and future <strong>climate</strong> <strong>change</strong> and related disasters are based on suggestions derived from different consultation workshops and key experts’ interviews. Key principles considered in formulating strategies and actions were a) reduction <strong>of</strong> exposure <strong>of</strong> income stream and production systems, b) reduction <strong>of</strong> sensitivity <strong>of</strong> the exposed systems, and c) increase adaptive capacity <strong>of</strong> vulnerable communities. Institutional and capacity building aspects to support implementation <strong>of</strong> actions have also been considered. It was found that there is similarity <strong>of</strong> suggestions mentioned here and in the national <strong>climate</strong> <strong>change</strong> strategy and action plan. 9.1 Reduction <strong>of</strong> Exposure “Exposure” is defined as the contact between an agent and a target. Basically it is the state <strong>of</strong> being exposed or laid open or bare; openness to danger; accessibility to anything that may affect adversely. Different systems are exposed to different <strong>climate</strong> related extreme events in different ways and magnitude. Hence, the reduction <strong>of</strong> exposure means the strategies or measures to be undertaken to reduce the exposures <strong>of</strong> the systems which are the driving force <strong>of</strong> economic growth from <strong>climate</strong> related shocks. It is to be noted that most <strong>of</strong> the measures are physical types <strong>of</strong> intervention in nature. <strong>The</strong> following table shows the measures to reduce the exposure <strong>of</strong> different systems.
