CLARENCE VOIGT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND2012 GATEWAY PGA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMBackgroundClarence Voigt began caddying at age nine at Westborough and then Westwood Country Clubs.Those experiences built the foundation of his character – hard work and service to others – andignited his passion for golf. After Naval service in World War II, Clarence quickly found his wayback to golf by joining St. Clair Country Club, in Belleville, Illinois, as the Assistant GolfProfessional in 1946. He later became Head Pro and then Director of Golf before he retired in1990.Clarence loved working with junior golfers, was a talented teacher and an expert club maker.He was a proud Life Member of the Professional Golfers’ Association and surpassed the halfcentury mark. Clarence modeled traits of loyalty, courage, dedication, good sportsmanship anddetermination in the way he lived his life. To honor his contributions to golf and to perpetuatehis legacy, Clarence’s family and friends have created a scholarship fund in his memory forthose young people who embody the same character traits.Scholarship InformationThe Gateway PGA Foundation grants a limited number of college scholarships for high schoolgraduates. The Foundation places collective emphasis on a commitment to golf, academics,community involvement and character.The Gateway PGA Foundation Scholarship will be awarded by the recommendation of theGateway PGA Foundation Scholarship Committee with approval by a committee of the Board ofDirectors of the Gateway PGA.Those already receiving full collegiate scholarships are not eligible. The value of the awardalone or in combinations with other aid may not exceed the value of tuition and fees.Disbursement of the scholarship will be made to the college or university for the recipient’seducational expenses when he or she attends that institution. The Gateway PGA Foundationdoes not restrict the choice of institution.Requirements1. Must reside in the Gateway PGA section and have participated in its Junior Golf program.2. Must submit a letter of recommendation from one high school teacher, coach, or golfprofessional.3. Must submit a copy of high school transcript including ACT and SAT scores.4. Must submit a complete application, including essay responses.Letter will notify the recipient(s) of the scholarship no later than July 1, 2012.
