2800: Environmental Health and Safety Technology
This program prepares students for employment in business, industry, and government
as environmental health and safety technicians. The environmental
health and safety technician carries out organizational plans intended to ensure a
healthy and safe work and community environment. Specifically, the technician
monitors, records, and reports on the handling, processing, and disposal of materials
and products in compliance with local, state, federal, and organizational standards
and trains and advises supervisory and operational personnel in the provision
of a safe and healthy environment.
Graduates of the program will possess knowledge and laboratory skills sufficient to
enable them to understand, communicate, and effectively address most environmental
health and safety issues and will understand the legal and regulatory system
within which modern industry operates. Environmental consulting firms, manufacturers,
medical facilities, regulatory agencies, and waste treatment plants can hire
graduates in entry-level positions to monitor and control wastes and to assist them
in complying with local, state, and federal regulations and regulatory agencies.
