Students are exposed to career options in entrepreneurship where they learn skills related to<br />

starting or buying a small business, working for fast growth business or corporation, family business<br />

301 NEW VENTURE CREATION 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 201 or by permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. Students work on the development <strong>of</strong> a business<br />

plan based on their chosen path in the field entrepreneurship (starting or buying a small<br />

business, working for fast growth business or corporation, new product family business or franchising).<br />

Open to all <strong>University</strong> students.<br />

330 FINANCING NEW VENTURES 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 201 or by permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. Exploration <strong>of</strong> financing, legal, taxation, and<br />

insurance issues involved with entrepreneurial ventures.<br />

360 ENTREPRENEURIAL FIELD PROJECT 3 credits<br />

Prerequisites: 201 or by permission <strong>of</strong> the instructor. A practical field experience where students<br />

work in a consulting role on an actual entrepreneurial project involving a small business development<br />

center, a small business incubator, or an existing small business.<br />

450 BUSINESS PLAN DEVELOPMENT 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 301. Students will work independently, with mentoring from the instructor, on an<br />

entrepreneurial project. Students will gain hands-on experience in developing a business plan for<br />

starting, acquiring, or expanding a business.<br />

220 THE LEGAL AND SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT OF BUSINESS 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: completion <strong>of</strong> 32 credits. Explores the legal and social environment in which modern<br />

business must function. <strong>The</strong> legal system, public and private law, and contemporary social<br />

and ethical issues are addressed.<br />

301 BUSINESS FINANCE 3 credits<br />

Prerequisites: 3250:200; 3450:141 or 3450:289A or 3450:145. An overview <strong>of</strong> the financial system<br />

and the major decision areas <strong>of</strong> the financial manager such as capital budgeting, financing,<br />

and working capital management.<br />

321 BUSINESS LAW I 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: completion <strong>of</strong> 64 credits. Discussions designed to develop legal reasoning within<br />

substantive areas <strong>of</strong> contractual obligation, agency relationships, partnerships, corporations,<br />

accountant’s legal responsibility, federal securities regulation and antitrust law.<br />

322 BUSINESS LAW II 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: completion <strong>of</strong> 64 credits. Applications <strong>of</strong> Uniform Commercial Code in sales, commercial<br />

paper and secured transactions. Additional discussions include property, wills, estates,<br />

trusts, bailments, insurance, suretyship, bankruptcy, and labor law.<br />

323 INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS LAW 3 credits<br />

<strong>The</strong> law and international commercial transactions. Among the subjects covered are sovereignty;<br />

treaties; agreements; antitrust practices; property rights; international arbitration.<br />

Prerequisite: 301; 6200:250 or 255; or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. <strong>The</strong>ory and case study applications<br />

<strong>of</strong> the comprehensive personal and pr<strong>of</strong>essional planning process.<br />

338 FINANCIAL MARKETS AND INSTITUTIONS 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 301 or 6140:370 or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor.. Studies the flows <strong>of</strong> funds. Analyzes<br />

major financial intermediaries. Money and capital markets reviewed with emphasis on interest<br />

rates and their impact upon administration <strong>of</strong> specific financial intermediaries.<br />

343 INVESTMENTS 3 credits<br />

Prerequisites: 6500:221; 301 or 6140:370; or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. Range <strong>of</strong> security investment<br />

media explored, alternative investment programs considered and role <strong>of</strong> securities markets<br />

through which goals can be achieved studied.<br />

379 ADVANCED BUSINESS FINANCE 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 301; 6200:250 or 255; 6500:222; or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. <strong>The</strong>ory and application<br />

<strong>of</strong> capital budgeting, capital structure, leasing, working capital management, and dividend policy<br />

within the financial information system.<br />

390 REAL ESTATE PRINCIPLES: A VALUE APPROACH 3 credits<br />

A study <strong>of</strong> real estate: the pr<strong>of</strong>ession, the process, and the product. Emphasis is on real estate<br />

as a product and the valuation process. <strong>The</strong> measurement <strong>of</strong> value requires tool abilities in<br />

accounting, statistics and finance.<br />

402 INCOME PROPERTY APPRAISAL 3 credits<br />

Prerequisites: 301 or 6140:370 or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. Advanced course in real property<br />

appraisal and valuation. Techniques and concepts will be covered along with the theory underlying<br />

such techniques.<br />

403 REAL ESTATE FINANCE 3 credits<br />

Prerequisites: 301 or 6140:370 or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. Advanced course in real estate covering<br />

financing <strong>of</strong> and investment in real property. Included are investment techniques, methods,<br />

institutions, instruments, valuation, appraisal and policy issues.<br />

415 RISK MANAGEMENT AND INSURANCE 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 301 or 6140:370; or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. Concepts <strong>of</strong> life and health insurance,<br />

property and casualty insurance, and risk and risk management are addressed, including analysis<br />

<strong>of</strong> employee benefit issues.<br />

* A student who has completed all but one <strong>of</strong> the required course prerequisites may enroll in the last<br />

required course concurrently with 471 with permission from the department <strong>of</strong> management chair.<br />

417 RETIREMENT AND ESTATE PLANNING 3 credits<br />

Prerequisites: 301, 370 or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. An in-depth examination <strong>of</strong> retirement and<br />

estate planning objectives, methods,and strategies including the study <strong>of</strong> employee benefits<br />

plans, public and private pension funds, and lifetime strategies for maximization <strong>of</strong> estate assets.<br />

424 LEGAL CONCEPTS OF REAL ESTATE 3 credits<br />

Study <strong>of</strong> concepts <strong>of</strong> law governing the many interests in real estate including acquisition,<br />

encumbrance, transfer, rights and obligations <strong>of</strong> parties, and the various state and federal regulations.<br />

<strong>The</strong> legal concepts <strong>of</strong> the business <strong>of</strong> real estate are likewise examined. Emphasis is on a<br />

managerial approach utilizing the case method.<br />

432 SEMINAR IN FINANCIAL PLANNING 3 credits<br />

Prerequisites: 332 or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor; and 6200:410, 6400:343 and 415 must be taken<br />

prior to or concurrently. Explores financial planning function, including contact, data acquisition,<br />

plan development and implementation; addresses planning techniques and financial planning<br />

ethical issues.<br />

436 COMMERCIAL BANK MANAGEMENT 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 301 or 6140:370; 6200: 250 or 255; or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor. Study <strong>of</strong> administrative<br />

policy determination and decision making within the commercial bank. Analysis <strong>of</strong> policy<br />

making in areas <strong>of</strong> liquidity, loan and security investment and sources <strong>of</strong> funds.<br />

individual and team reports will be used.<br />

222 QUANTITATIVE BUSINESS ANALYSIS II 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 221. Two-sample hypothesis testing; ANOVA; Chi-square tests; simple and multiple<br />

linear regression; nonparametric procedures; forecasting. Case analysis with written individual and<br />

Prerequisites: 310 and 48 completed hours. An introduction to database design and management,<br />

including data modeling, relational theory, Structured Query Language, and database applications,<br />

development, using database management systems.<br />

325 ANALYSIS, DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 324. An introduction to the techniques <strong>of</strong> business modeling, systems design, and<br />

implementation, including the application <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>tware engineering tools in support <strong>of</strong> modeling and<br />

Prerequisites: 301 and 221 or equivalent. An overview <strong>of</strong> the terminology, fundamental concepts<br />

and functional scope <strong>of</strong> responsibility encountered in the field <strong>of</strong> operations management.<br />

Prerequisites: 222 and 330. Application <strong>of</strong> quantitative models in the analysis and design <strong>of</strong> operational<br />
