INTERVENTION THERAPY<br />

403 HOME-BASED INTERVENTION THEORY 3 credits<br />
Prerequisite: Admission to the Certificate Program. Overview <strong>of</strong> home based intervention to<br />
include philosophy and description <strong>of</strong> this programming as well as assessment <strong>of</strong> family, their<br />
home and community environment.<br />
404 HOME-BASED INTERVENTION TECHNIQUES AND PRACTICE 3 credits<br />
Prerequisite: 403. Provides intervention techniques and skill areas required for home-based intervention<br />
and learning opportunities for matching techniques with specific family problems.<br />
405 HOME-BASED INTERVENTION INTERNSHIP 3-5 credits<br />
Prerequisite: 404. Gives students the opportunity to apply knowledge <strong>of</strong> home-based intervention<br />
in actual delivery process working with families in their homes under direct supervision <strong>of</strong><br />
trained, experienced home based intervention therapists.<br />

300 INTRODUCTION TO WOMEN’S STUDIES 3 credits<br />
Introduction to the interdisciplinary program in Women’s Studies. Explores current scholarship in<br />
women’s issues and experiences from perspectives <strong>of</strong> psychology, history, sociology, anthropology,<br />
and literary criticism. Feminist orientation and methodology.<br />
480/580 FEMINIST THEORY 3 credits<br />
Prerequisite: 300. A summary <strong>of</strong> feminist theory to familiarize students with the main currents in<br />
contemporary feminist theory and the origins and evolution <strong>of</strong> that thought.<br />
485/585 SPECIAL TOPICS IN WOMEN’S STUDIES 1-3 credits<br />
(May not be repeated). Special topics and current issues in Women’s Studies. Covers content not<br />
currently addressed in other courses. Fosters a critical approach to knowledge about women.<br />
489/589 INTERNSHIP IN WOMEN’S STUDIES 1-4 credits<br />
Prerequisite: 300, permission <strong>of</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> Women’s Studies. This class provides supervised<br />
experience and on-the-job training in an organization, agency, corporation or group dealing with<br />
women’s issues.<br />

Various topics focused on women. <strong>The</strong>mes and course materials vary each semester. Lecture<br />
and discussion.<br />
493 INDIVIDUAL STUDIES ON WOMEN 1-3 credits<br />
Prerequisite: 300, and approval <strong>of</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> Women’s Studies. Directed study <strong>of</strong> selected topics<br />
related to women. Projects are chosen by student in consultation with instructor.<br />

Student directed in supervised roles <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional and parapr<strong>of</strong>essional in meeting health-care<br />
needs <strong>of</strong> community. Open to first-year student in Phase 1 <strong>of</strong> B.S./M.D. program.<br />

Medical history, literature, and ethics from the perspective <strong>of</strong> the Humanities, with readings<br />
from original sources and literary works on medical subjects.
