Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts in Family and<br />
Consumer Sciences Education<br />
<strong>The</strong> name “Family and Consumer Sciences” or FCS was adopted nationally in<br />
1994, but you may hear FCS education programs called “Home Economics,”<br />
“Life Skills,” or “Work and Family.” <strong>The</strong>se programs can be found in middle<br />
schools, high schools, career centers and in adult education programs. After successfully<br />
completing the following requirements, a student will be qualified to<br />
obtain an initial Ohio Two-Year Provisional License in Vocational Family and<br />
Consumer Sciences Education grades 4-12.<br />
• Meet requirements to be admitted to the College <strong>of</strong> Fine and Applied Arts,<br />
School <strong>of</strong> Family and Consumer Sciences and the College <strong>of</strong> Education<br />
Teacher and Teacher Education Program.<br />
• Complete required FCS content and teacher education courses with a minimum<br />
<strong>of</strong> a “C” grade.<br />
• Pass Praxis II PLT 7-12 and FCS content tests.<br />
• Successfully complete an 11-week student teaching field experience.<br />

Senior Honors Program<br />
Senior honors project in family and consumer sciences and family ecology is one<br />
to three credits per semester and may be repeated for a total <strong>of</strong> six credits.<br />
Prerequisite: Senior standing in the Honors Program and approval <strong>of</strong> honors project<br />
by faculty preceptor.
