PROGRAMS OF INSTRUCTION<br />
6100: General Business<br />
This degree program is intended to <strong>of</strong>fer flexibility to the student. Some students<br />
who intend to pursue careers in small business management, whether by creating<br />
or acquiring a business, or perhaps taking over a family business enterprise, may<br />
find the flexibility <strong>of</strong> this degree program best for them. Other students with more<br />
administrative experience may also prefer the larger course selection <strong>of</strong>fered by<br />
this degree program.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Business Administration (BSBA) program does not<br />
include a major per se.<br />
Instead, the students complete the CBA core curriculum and 28 credit hours from<br />
the following:<br />
• Two courses (24 credits) from the 300- or 400-level <strong>of</strong> 6200, 6400. 6500 and<br />
6600, which must include one <strong>of</strong> the following<br />

6200: Accountancy<br />
<strong>The</strong> George W. Daverio School <strong>of</strong> Accountancy prepares students for careers in<br />
accounting, auditing, taxation, and information systems services. <strong>The</strong> functions <strong>of</strong><br />
accountancy and information systems are essential to the decision-making<br />
process in commerce, industry, and government. <strong>The</strong>re are exceptional opportunities<br />
for pr<strong>of</strong>essional advancement regardless <strong>of</strong> career path and the type <strong>of</strong><br />
institution a graduate may choose.<br />
Graduates may pursue certification credentials such as Certified Public<br />
Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Internal<br />
Auditor (CIA) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). CISA is an information<br />
technology pr<strong>of</strong>essional who specializes in the areas <strong>of</strong> audit, control and<br />
security.<br />
After January 1, 2000, Ohio law requires 150 hours <strong>of</strong> college level education as a<br />
prerequisite for certification as a Certified Public Accountant in the state <strong>of</strong> Ohio.<br />
CPA certification is generally required for careers in public accounting. Careers in<br />
industry, government, non-pr<strong>of</strong>it institutions or information systems consulting<br />
services generally do not require students to pass the CPA exam.<br />
To receive a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Accounting degree from the George W.Daverio<br />
School <strong>of</strong> Accountancy, a student must complete the College requirements and the<br />
requirements for the program described below:<br />

* Students who elect to work in public accounting as a CPA should choose one <strong>of</strong> the following<br />
two avenues to meet the 150 semester hour requirements: (A) Complete the BSA as shown<br />
above and apply for the 30 credit-hour Master <strong>of</strong> Science in Accountancy program described in the<br />
Graduate Bulletin: (B) Complete a minor or certificate program in conjunction with the BSA. It is<br />
important to note that sequencing <strong>of</strong> courses under this concentration is very important in order to<br />
maximize CPA examination readiness. Curriculum guides with suggested minors/certificate<br />
programs and course sequencing are available in the School <strong>of</strong> Accountancy.
