5610: Special Education<br />
Intervention Specialist for Mild/Moderate<br />
Educational Needs<br />
Prior to admission into Special Education, you must complete the required General<br />
Education courses listed. <strong>The</strong>se General Education requirements provide<br />
Intervention Specialist Education majors with the breadth <strong>of</strong> knowledge they will<br />
need to make decisions while teaching children with exceptionalities. Other admission<br />
requirements are outlined on the program application form.<br />
To meet the needs <strong>of</strong> children with exceptionalities, the College <strong>of</strong> Education<br />
<strong>of</strong>fers three licensure options as follows: Intervention Specialist Early Childhood<br />
(P-3), Intervention Specialist Mild to Moderate (K-12), and Intervention Specialist<br />
Moderate to Intensive (K-12). <strong>The</strong>se programs prepare education students to<br />
work effectively with pupils who experience physical, learning, and/or emotional<br />
differences. Graduates <strong>of</strong> these programs are trained to put theory into practice<br />
by instructing special classes, instructing integrated units, conducting tutoring services,<br />
and providing support for general classroom teachers. For specific program<br />

Intervention Specialist for Moderate/Intensive<br />
Educational Needs<br />
This program is designed to meet the standards for the State <strong>of</strong> Ohio teaching<br />
license for Intervention Specialist for Moderate/Intensive Educational Needs.<br />
Students completing this program will be prepared to work as an Intervention<br />
Specialist with students who have moderate/intensive educational needs. <strong>The</strong><br />
program consists <strong>of</strong> 45 hours <strong>of</strong> General Education requirements, 21 hours <strong>of</strong><br />
Teaching Education core requirements, 46 hours <strong>of</strong> Special Education core<br />
requirements and 23 hours <strong>of</strong> Intervention Specialist for Mild/Moderate<br />
Educational Needs program requirements. <strong>The</strong> total program requires 135 hours;<br />
there are no elective hours in the program.<br />
