TESOL Validation<br />

(Teaching English to Speakers <strong>of</strong> Other Languages)<br />

This program introduces students to the key issues in teaching English to nonnative<br />

speakers through course work in linguistics, second language theory and<br />

methods, and in related disciplines.<br />

Students seeking this validation must have studied a foreign language at sometime<br />

during their academic career.<br />

Students who do not have English as a native language must demonstrate adequate<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in English with a valid TOEFL score <strong>of</strong> 580 or above and a score<br />

<strong>of</strong> 240 or above on the TSE (Test <strong>of</strong> Spoken English).<br />

teaching, students must have a 2.5 GPA overall, a 2.5 GPA in all education classes (with a “C” or<br />

better in each class) and a 2.5 GPA or better in physical education courses (5550) with each course<br />

earning a grade <strong>of</strong> “C” or better.<br />
