UCC in action in the rowing championships Foreword UCC at a Glance Academic Developments Teaching and Learning Research College Reports: Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences Business and Law Medicine and Health Science, Engineering and Food Science Events Student Experience Sports and Recreation Buildings and Estates Cork University Press Finance Governing Body IRIS Appendix 70 UCC ladies’ hockey match on new pitch • UCC senior team were Sigerson Cup finalists. • UCC senior Gaelic football team were McGrath Cup finalists • Five UCC students received Sigerson All-Stars: Michael Shields, Ken O’Halloran, Shane Enright, Johnny Buckley and Barry O’Driscoll. Golf • Ian O’Rourke was a member of the Munster senior men’s golf inter-pros team. Handball • Ashley Prendiville won the All-Ireland 60 x 30 singles and doubles titles, and the 40 x 20 doubles title. Ashley also won the intervarsity title. • UCC graduate Maria Daly won the 40 x 20 singles title and partnered Ashley in the two doubles finals. Maria was also awarded the 2010 Female Senior Player of the Year award • David Walsh won the ‘A’ intervarsity title. • John Casey was crowned ‘B’ intervarsity winner. • John Kearney won the World Collegiate Men’s C Division Championship in Arizona. Hurling • UCC fresher ‘A’ are All-Ireland colleges champions. • Bill Beckett captained Kilkenny intermediates to All-Ireland success. • Michael Cahill was a member of the winning Tipperary All- Ireland Senior & U21 winning teams. • Philip O’Mahony was awarded Waterford Supreme Sports Star of the Year in January 2010. • UCC intermediate hurlers won the Intermediate Championship. • UCC fresher ‘B’ team won the ‘B’ Hurling League. • Senior hurlers were Waterford Crystal Cup finalists. Kendo • Szilard Szucs was a member of the Cork squad that won the team competition at the National Championships. Ken O’Halloran, UCC goalkeeper, in action in the McGrath Cup against Kerry Ladies’ Hockey • Audrey O’Flynn and Miriam Crowley both received their first senior caps for Ireland. They joined Julia O’Halloran on the Irish senior squad this year. • UCC’s senior team retained their All-Ireland status. • UCC’s seniors were runners-up in the Munster Senior League. Ladies’ Rugby • College league finalists. Ladies’ Soccer • Futsal intervarsity winners and went on to represent Ireland at the European University Futsal championships in Croatia. • Zoe Murphy and Linda Douglas were awarded All-Stars. Men’s Hockey • Andrew Grey was a member of the Munster senior inter-pros team

He also won a silver medal at the World U23 Rowing Championships – lightweight double sculls. Rugby • All-Ireland U21 club champions. • Munster U21 cup winners (the seventh victory in a row). • U21 Waterpark tournament winners. • U21 Conroy Cup finalists – U21 intervarsity. • Retained the All-Ireland senior division 1B status (third in table). • Munster Senior Cup finalists. • Bryan Cagney and David O’Callaghan were part of the Irish U20 squad. • Sean Scanlon and John Ryan were members of the Ireland Club International team. • Andrew Burke, David O’Callaghan, Sean Scanlon, Jonathan Holland and Ivan Dineen were members of the Munster panel. • UCC second Juniors won the Tramway Cup – Munster Junior 2 Cup – three in a row for UCC. • UCC Junior 3 were Munster Junior 3 cup finalists. Sailing • UCC were crowned ‘Coupe de l’Université de Nantes, FF Sport ‘U’ – Voile ‘Match Racing’ champions. Soccer UCC Rowing Club getting ready for action at the intervarsities • UCC juniors were Crowley Cup finalists in the junior intervarsities. • UCC second juniors won the Corinthians Cup in the Munster junior cup competition. Squash • UCC men’s ‘A’ team were runners up in the intervarsities. • UCC men’s ‘B’ team won the ‘B’ intervarsities. • UCC men’s ‘C’ team were runners up in the ‘C’ intervarsities. • UCC men’s ‘D’ team won the ‘D’ intervarsities. • UCC ladies’ ‘B’ team were runners up in the ‘B’ intervarsities. Tae Kwon Do (TWD)/Kickboxing • Connie Vaughan was third at the ITF World TWD Championships held in Korea. She also won two medals at the Korean Open. • Christian Spagnol won a bronze medal at the Korean Open. Ultimate Frisbee • Won every intervarsity ladies’ and men’s competitions, both indoors and outdoors, in 2009/2010. • Received six awards from the Irish Flying Discs Association at their annual awards – the first time a third-level institution has been honoured at these awards. • Several club members represented Ireland at U21, U23 and senior level in International competitions.
