The group normally meets at 7:30 pm on the 3 rd Wednesday of the month, September – November,

On April 16, Jean Questel will host. Two books—Girl With the Pearl Earring by Chevalier and Girl in
Hyacinth Blue by Vreeland--will be discussed.
On May 14, Sonia Dial will host. And His Lovely Wife by Connie Schultz is the selection.

I have not been involved with the hiking group before and am looking forward to new
adventures and trails with both seasoned and new members. I have listed below the names of

We could start hiking in May, if it’s dry, and plan two hikes a month through the fall. We can
continue hiking on Fridays. I’m open to suggestions. I thought maybe we could branch out and
try some places other than our park system, i.e., the UA campus. Exciting changes have been
made on campus in the last few years and more are happening right now. Perhaps we could take
a hike through Glendale Cemetery, especially to see the Civil War Chapel. I would appreciate
input on trails that you would like to hike.
I am looking forward to hiking the hills and valleys of Akron and surrounding areas with you.

Women’s Club News and Notes
Note: If you have any news regarding our members such as illnesses, births, or deaths, please call our
Corresponding Secretary, Margy Siebert at 330-865-5656 or e-mail siebmk77@yahoo.com. Margy will send an
appropriate card with regards from the Club.
We are saddened by the death of Arleen Birdsell on February 26. She and her husband, Don, Associate
Dean, College of Education, were long time participants in Couples Bridge. Arleen substituted in both
ladies’ bridge groups. For several years she taught part time in the College of Education, supervising
student teachers and presenting workshops for them. Her son, Mark, her daughter, Lisa, and three
grandchildren survive Arleen. A memorial service was held March 3 at Faith Lutheran Church in
Fairlawn. (Thanks, Carol Ramey, for informing us.)
Sharon Gandee’s husband Bob is at home recuperating from heart by-pass surgery. He’s progressing
steadily and getting out a little now.
Betty Seiberling’s husband John broke his hip in late January but is at home now, having physical
therapy, and walking well with a walker. Betty says that she is okay but her vision has not improved;
she gets her information from radio and television.
Our condolences to Sally Ann Anderson; her mother passed away in February.
Dr. Jane Dunlap, president of the Women’s Club from 1959-1960 passed away on March 20 at her home
in Canfield, Ohio. She taught part time at UA and also taught at the U of Tennessee-Knoxville. Her
husband Dr. James Dunlap, now deceased, was professor and head of Theatre Arts in the College of
Fine and Applied Arts.
