MLA Stylesheet for Research Essay CitationsYuba College Learning Resources (Revision—Fall 2009)According to guidelines of the Modern Language Association, the list of sources used in a research paper is called a Works Cited list.It appears at the end of the research paper on a separate page. All entries should be double spaced. If an entry goes to a 2nd or 3rdline, those lines should be indented (hanging indent). MLA requires that you capitalize the title words in article titles and book titles. Some general changes to note in the 7 th edition of the MLA Style Manual (2009): You must always identify the Medium ofPublication—usually Print for print sources and Web for any electronic sources or internet sources. New guidelines for 2009 also notethat you should use italics (not underline) for book titles and names of periodicals. Here are some samples of entries--Print SourcesBOOKSNO AUTHOR ..............................................ONE AUTHORTWO AUTHORS .........................................MORE THAN TWO AUTHORS ................EDITOR .......................................................ESSAY OR ARTICLE IN COLLECTION.....ENCYCLOPEDIA ARTICLE...............MAGAZINES AND NEWSPAPERSMAGAZINE ARTICLE SIGNED ................MAGAZINE ARTICLE UNSIGNED .........Handbook of Korea. 6th ed. Electronic or Online SourcesNote these changes in the 2009 MLA Style Manual (7 th ed.): Since URLs (web addresses) change often and since sources are oftenavailable in more than one location on the internet, you are no longer required to include the URL in your entry (unless your teacherrequires it or unless you think that readers would have a difficult time finding your source through a search engine). If you do includea URL, place it in angle brackets < >. When you cite articles from subscription databases (the databases that the Yuba CollegeLibrary subscribes to, such as Proquest and Wilson Web), you are no longer required to give the library name or city. Simply give thename of the subscription database, in italics. Always give the Medium of Publication (Web), followed by the date that you accessedthe information. For web pages, always give the sponsor of the website after you list the title of the web page and identify the website.See samples below--SCHOLARLY JOURNALS ONLINE WHEN ALSOAVAILABLE IN PRINT .............................Note: For scholarly journals, use volume and issue number (with date).Alcoser, Pat W.
