At the dinner, Marcel Ngueguim, (Stephane’s father),made a presentation on the progress made andpotential projects that could be considered in thefuture. One that he mentioned was stocking a libraryfor the local school. This was an idea that resonatedwith me. Here at ISS we always have books to donateas we are on a regular textbook rotation schedule. Sofinding the books is not a problem. SHIPPING THEBOOKS to a location is, however, always a problem.The weight and cost are just not logical for the schoolto take on as the normal shipping costs would befar higher than the value. By writing about this, Iam hoping that someone in our school communitywho has contacts in—for example—one of the oilcompanies that have offices in Cameroon and areregularly sending shipments down there, wouldlike to offer a wonderful humanitarian gesture ofbeing willing to ship our used books down to a verywelcoming library.Our Board of Trustees has recently approved theschool’s updated Guiding Statements, and the school’snew Vision Statement is “Inspire a community ofresponsible, globally-engaged empowered learners.”Anyone who has watched our Cameroon ServiceProject participants in action would recognize thatour students are living examples of those powerfulwords.To read the complete new Guiding Statements, pleasesee them on the next page.
