<strong>Residential</strong> <strong>Solar</strong> <strong>Water</strong> <strong>Site</strong> <strong>Assessor</strong> <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>Requirements</strong>A MREA <strong>Site</strong> <strong>Assessor</strong> <strong>Certificate</strong> requires a combination of skills, abilities, knowledge, and training. The following checklist has been developed to aid potential site assessors in understanding the requirements and processes.Steps for a <strong>Certificate</strong>Meet prerequisite skills requirements. (See page two for a full description.)Successfully complete MREA’s <strong>Solar</strong> Domestic Hot <strong>Water</strong> workshop or an approved training program.Successfully complete MREA’s <strong>Solar</strong> <strong>Water</strong> <strong>Site</strong> <strong>Assessor</strong> Training or an approved training program.Conduct and turn in two practice assessments to be reviewed by the Technology Mentor.Pay $50 exam feePass the <strong>Residential</strong> <strong>Solar</strong> <strong>Water</strong> <strong>Site</strong> <strong>Assessor</strong> Certification exam. (85% or higher)Sign the <strong>Solar</strong> <strong>Water</strong> <strong>Site</strong> <strong>Assessor</strong> Code of Ethics.Submit the <strong>Assessor</strong> Contact Info form.Maintaining a <strong>Certificate</strong>A MREA <strong>Certificate</strong> is valid for three years. To maintain a certificate an assessor must:Renew your certificate at the end of each three-year period by taking online <strong>Certificate</strong> Renewal course. Standard Prerequisite SkillsCriteria to Achieve <strong>Site</strong> <strong>Assessor</strong> <strong>Certificate</strong>Midwest Renewable Energy AssociationStudents who have successfully completed a MREA <strong>Site</strong> <strong>Assessor</strong> course in any technology are not guaranteed acertificate. A certificate can be denied if it is determined by the MREA Education Director, Technology Mentor, and/or<strong>Site</strong> Assessment Coordinator that the student’s work does not meet MREA standards. Examples of quality issues thatmay result in a denial of a certificate include, but are not limited to:Written Communication – Reports need to written in a clear, concise and professional writing style. Incompletesentences, spelling errors, grammatical errors and rambling thoughts are examples of sub standard writing.Verbal Communication – <strong>Assessor</strong>s need to clearly communicate complex concepts to clients, Technology Mentors,and others involved in the site assessment program. Inability to explain the technology, funding opportunities, andthe site assessment process are examples of sub standard communication.Time Management – <strong>Site</strong> assessors need to manage multiple tasks, and complete reports on deadline. Missingappointments, missing report deadlines, and delays in returning phone calls are examples of sub standard timemanagement.Critical Thinking – <strong>Site</strong> assessors are expected to “think on their feet” and solve complex problems. Inability toapply concepts to new situations, make decisions based on known information, and conduct research to determinecurrent information are examples of a lack of critical thinking skills.Basic Mathematics – <strong>Assessor</strong>s need an understanding of basic math skills for calculating electrical loads, sizingsystems, and invoicing customers (multiplication, division, percentages). Lack of these skills are often apparent inwritten reports.Computer Skills – <strong>Site</strong> assessors need to be proficient with basic computer skills including word processing, email,spreadsheets, photo programs, and internet skills/access.
