Releasing the parking brake: You will need to use thePUSH TO RELEASE parking brake pedal. Hold theregular brake pedal down and push the parking brakepedal with your left foot. This will unlock the pedal.When you lift your left foot, the parking brake pedalwill follow it to the release position.11 ; 1 try to drive off with the parking brake on, thebrae light stays on and a chime sounds until you releasethe parking brake or recycle the ignition.NOTICE:Driving with the parking brake on can causeyour rear brakes to overheat. You may have toreplace them, and you could also damage otherparts of your vehicle.If you are towing a trailer and are parking on a hill, see“Towing a Trailer” in the Index. That section showswhat to do first to keep the trailer from moving.Shifting Into PARK (P)It can be dangerous to get out of your vehicle ifthe shift lever is not fully in PARK (P) with theparking brake firmly set. Your vehicle can roll. Ifyou have left the engine running, the vehicle canmove suddenly. You or others could be injured.To be sure your vehicle won’t move, even whenyou’re on fairly level ground, use the steps thatfollow.
